Zurich: Hotel Adler or Swiss Quality Ambassador
Which hotel?
Seems like a toss up but the Adler is closer to the train station which is how I will arrive from Solothurn. Rates are similar for a single.
I am staying Fri/Sat (Aug 8,9).

Hi N,
You might wish to consider the www.st-josef.ch/page/e/hotel_e2.html
We liked our recent visit there.
It is closer to the rail station than the Adler.

www.hrs.com shows 72 hotels with vacancies for 8/8.
Hotel Adler has a very good location, right in Old town. But otherwise, the rooms look kind of barren.
The Swiss Quality Ambassador looks MUCH nicer, the location is also very good - on the lake and also just a few minutes walk from the old town.
Both hotels are not exactly in walking distance from the train station if you have to carry baggage. If you take the streetcar both hotels are in easy reach from the station (10 min).

follow-up ...
Stayed 2 nights (8/8-8/9) at the Adler which was quite decent. I chose the location because it was away from the Street Parade whereas the Ambassador was on the route.
I did walk from the train station (Zurch HB) with luggage and there was no problem. It took less than 10 minutes. The trams did not look luggage friendly.
Their restaurant was quite good for dinner and the breakfast was very nice. The staff was also very helpful and efficient.
I passed the St. Josef and it did not look as convenient to the train station because of the small hills to walk there. It was closer to the university.
