Zermatt this weekend, a good idea looking at the weather?

I had a look at the forecast of Zermatt, it looks like there would be thundestorms in the evening. So would it be a good idea to visit these weekends, on days with such weather, are the views of the Matternhorn good, atleast in the morning? Or does going high up to Gornergrat still give you the views no matter what?

weather I checked: : https://www.wunderground.com/q/zmw:00000.1.06748

You can see the Matterhorn from rhe village. Weather forecasts this far in advance tell you nothing. If the storms happen in the evening I don't see the problem with your day fun.
Mountain weather in general is changeable.

We thought the area was beautiful. I hope you go.

The forecast when we were going to Interlaken/Jungfrau region was thunderstorms all day for 5 days, I was worried of course. But we ended up having perfect sunny weather. Visibility at the top was hazy, so we waited for a clear day and got it on day 4. Have a great trip!!!

Once you actually go up "there" you'll realize that there is more to it than the view of the peak. Turn around and look down on the Monte Rosa Massif and you'll understand.

Meteo.ch is the national weather service and more reliable especially on local level. With the changing mountain weather in mind, forecasts are difficult.
Today, the mountains were in haze when approacing Berne. No thunderstorms but it's hot. High pressure with chances of afternoon thunderstorms shall prevail till Saturday.

Dukey - I agree. There are so many mountain peaks, it is dazzling.

In the last days, there were many clouds along the Italian border.
You may have a look at the webcam pictures (hour per hour) of the last 7 days.
http://www.bergfex.ch/zermatt/webcams/c8762/

Previsions:
ww.meteoswiss.admin.ch/home.html?tab=overview&date=6days

If they don't change in the next days, I would give Zermatt a miss and go to he Bernina glacier area instead.

The actual probability for the weekend is 60 per cent only, however. So check every day and decide at the last possible moment.

Thanks a lot everyone! Looks like I'm going, it doesn't look too bad. I need some feedback on my hiking itinerary:

Day 1:
Walk from Gornergrat to Sunegga via Riffelsee, Findeln. I plan to go to Grindjsee as well,is there a path which takes me directly to Stellisee from Riffelberg, or should I get to Sunegga and take the lift to Stellisee.
And what are the food options on the road, Riffelberg and Sunegga, just these two?

Day 2: Walk to zmutt, and maybe a little further.
Any other suggestions for good hikes around, with great views(instead of any of the ones I have planned)?

We took the gondola from Zermatt to Trockener Steg and then walked down. Pretty amazing views of the Matterhorn at the top and then all the way down. This might be a little further than you were thinking of but it is all downhill. And you could probably cover the last section between Furi and Zermatt by cable car.

I just checked the webcam at Trockener Steg. It looks like the path would be clear but you'd need to check.

The weather forecast got much better in the meantime. It seems to get really bad on Tuesday only.

"Gornergrat to Sunegga via Riffelsee, Findeln" doesn't make much sense, although it's feasible.
Easier solutions:
Gornergrat - Kelle - Gruensee - Grindjisee - Leisee - Sunnegga,
Gornergrat - Rotenboden/Riffelsee - Riffelberg - Riffelboden - Gruensee - Grindjisee - Leisee - Sunnegga,
..... Gruensee - Fluhalp Restaurant - Stellisee - Blauherd gondola station.

Stellisee:
15 min walk from both, Blauherd gondola station and Fluhalp Restaurant; 40 min walk from Gruensee.

Riffelberg - Stellisee:
only via Riffelboden - Gruensee (see above); the trail via Riffelalp to Gruensee is a bit longer, but nicer, however

Restaurants in the area (all rather expensive):
Gornergrat, Riffelberg, Riffelalp, Ze Seewjinen (Gruensee), Fluhalp, Blauherd, Sunnegga.

Z'Mutt is rather close to Zermatt. May be you go by gondola to Schwarzsee and then down to Stafelalp restaurant - Z'Mutt - Zermatt.

Thanks a lot, turned out pretty good, just that the mornings were rainy. But I good pretty good views.
I walked all the way to Stellisee from Gornergrat, a little tiring, but good views at Riffelalp. But I missed the last train from Sunegga and came down walking, which was good, since I passed through Findeln, and the views of the Matterhorn were brilliant.
On the second day, I walked till Zmutt and walked on the trail which goes up the mountain for quite a time till I got a great view of the Matterhorn. Came back, had a great lunch in Zmutt(only cash) and headed back to Zurich.
On the other days, dinners were at Whymper-Stubli and La Gitan, both were absolutely great. So yes, Zermatt was great, but I have a slightly higher preference for the greener Bernese Oberland.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm happy to hear that you had a nice trip.
I have a higher preference for the less green (and less rainy) Valais.
So, people are different. But it's good so.
