Zagreb
Hello,
We will be arriving in Zagreb (via train) on Saturday, July 21. I found out the Folk Festival in Zagreb will be going on during that time. We are happy about this but were wondering a few things:
1. Since its a festival, will the hotels be hard to book? So should we book asap?
2. The folk festival ends on that Sunday, 7/22. Will most shops, cafes, museums and restaurants be closed on Sunday? I know in other European cities, sunday and sometimes Mondays places are closed.
3. We will be traveling to Varazdin (north of Zagreb) on that Monday. Same here - will places be closed?
Has anyone been in Zagreb during the Folk Festival? If so, I was curious as to their experience.
Can anyone recommend a good restaurant or two? This may seem like a bit of an odd request but we are looking for a restaurant that has lamp on a spit or something close to it.
Thank you for your help.

I think you mean "lamb on a spit" and I can't tell you the name of one in Zagreb, but I think you are looking for a restaurant called a "konoba" or tavern, which is pretty much where I saw lambs on spits. Google is your friend here. Outdoor spits were generally in operation on weekends, and I would think that a folk festival might be a good time to find one.
A related critical Croat word is "Pivo", or beer. The two may go together! For an inexpensive meal, we found that pizza in Croatia is absolutely the best we have ever eaten, if you like thin crust pizza, and it is cheap.

Ackislander - I most definitely meant lamb Good catch! I'll chalk it up to lack of sleep!
We do love pizza - will have to try it out as well as googling lamb over there - thank you for your help!
Thank you qwovadis for your suggestions - I will look into this. I'm hoping most places are opened since it's the festival during that time. We won't be in Zagreb that long so would hate to not be able to pop into places!

Your desired lamb dish is cooked under the Peka. www.konoba-didovsan/com has two places in Zagreb. Enjoy!
