My source for wonderful small restaurants anywhere in France is the Michelin Red Guide. Reliable info on everything you could want to know including prices, specialties, etc., is there.
The places I loved best in Provence:
1) Hotel: the Sofitel in the old harbor in Marseille plus the walk down to the harborside outdoor restaurants in the evening for bouillabaisse. 2) Site: the Pont du Gard (a roman aquaduct over a river) 3) Out-of-the-way-charm: the little hillside village of Les Baux (eat in the outdoor restaurant on your right as you walk up its one street); Historic Site: Aigues Morts, the fortress city on the coast from which Louis launched one of the Crusades.

Wonderful small restaurants in Provence?

How many wonderful small restaurants might there be in Provence, I wonder... 500? 5000?

So, take any anecdotal info you get here with a huge grain of salt. The places I have loved in Europe were often the ones that came with no pre-conception in my mind - - the discoveries I stumbled onto when I least expected to find them.

Having said that, I will think fondly of La Becasserie in Montauroux (halfway between Grasse and Draguignan) for a long time to come.

Best wishes,

Rex

Village of St.Remy has a great market every Wednesday.

"Gousse D'Ail" is very good little restaurant in St. Remy.

"Mas Toureton" near Gordes is my favorite Provence restaurant. Have lunch outdoors if you are there in between late Spring and early Fall.
