XXX-RATED FRENCH FILMS

I finally got the nerve to ask this question. I'm sure you can buy sexy French movies in Paris. Can you bring them back to the States without any problem? My husband seems to think that X-rated movies wouldn't be permitted to bring back. But we can buy them already here, so why not be able to bring them into the country?
Oh, for heaven's sake -- do you think customs agents
are ministers or something? This isn't Iran, you
know, where they legislate things like that. I have
never bought a foreign video in Europe, but I have
been told that they are not compatible with the standard
VCR sold in the US and use a different format.
What on earth do you think is so fascinating about
naked people in France, anyway -- do you think
their porno videos are going to be any different
than others, or that naked girls at the Crazy Horse
are going to be a real cultural experience (your
other question, I believe)? Why don't you and
your husband save a lot of money and just go to
that Paris casino/hotel in Las Vegas where they
have a fake Eiffel tower, etc., and plenty of naked
women and porno movies?
Dear Christina: Thank you for the information regarding not being able to use foreign films on our VCR in the US. You could have saved the criticism however, as I didn't expect you to judge us or our taste in recreational adventures.

Sherrie: It is true, the format for the US (Canada, etc) would be "NTSC". Most European countries use "PAL" or "SECAM" which are not compatable with our machines. The video tapes are the same size, but the information is encoded in a different format. You could probably buy "NTSC" films in English (or whatever) over there, I would think. As for your personal preferences, all that matters is what you both think. Have a good time!

Dear Lee: Thank you so much for your advice.
We are looking forward to seeing the most we can in our 8 days in Paris...the cultural sights and the sensuous. We enjoy it all! Thanks again,
Sherrie
The video formats indeed are different as I discovered last year when I brought back gardening videos from the UK. However, the incompatible videos can be converted. Just look in the yellow pages for video stores offering this service. It ain't cheap, though; we were charged $25 per video.
