Wow, I think I booked a VW Touran at a great rate

I just booked a VW Touran for 2 weeks in early Sept for 464.91 USD. Is this a decent rate in the current market? Pickup and drop off at the Munich airport.

Sounds very reasonable to me. Taxes included? You are aware that airport pickup is taxed far higher than in town?

Seems like around USD 100 below the best offer I could find now. Where did you book?

I understand it's more expensive to pickup at the airport, but for the ease of use I do it.
I'm using my CC for the insurance. And I once had to make a claim. The following is from my statement:

Woyzeck,
I've never driven a Touran. So I'm in for a good ride? It will be 2 people and 3 large pieces of luggage. And at times 4 people and some small luggage for overnight style trips with homebases.
Thanks,
Ken

Is the Touran a diesel? I've been looking at this same car.

Touran is available in gas and diesel, but for rentals your car is almost certain to be diesel.

norrisken,

Our diesel Touran was a very comfortable (but not luxurious) ride and surprisingly good on fuel. It is kind of a crossover vehicle, and therefore felt spacious, but not huge or unwieldy like a van, even in smaller streets in Germany. We drove with 4 adults and 4 large suitcases, so it sounds like it should suit your purposes just fine. I liked it so much that I tried to buy one from my VW dealer at home (US), but it's not available. The salesperson tried to sell me on the similarly-named "Routan" which is not the same at all.

I'm also looking at booking the Touran through Hertz for our 2.5 week central europe trip. I had a few questions...

a) What does IDMR stand for in the car description. Does it mean diesel?
b) Will the Touran be comfortable enough for four adults and an infant. We will not have a lot of luggage
c) We will be driving the car through Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. Does Hertz have restrictions in these countries. Does Hertz provide permits?

Let us know how it works out. I like the VW Touran, but chances your very good you'll get the "or similar", not actually the Touran. In my experience Hertz Germany carries a very wide range of models - VW, Opel, SEAT, Ford, Skoda, and many other brands.

a) IDMR = intermediate, 4-door, manual gear, air conditioning.
Touran is usally classed as
IVMR = intermediate (mini)van manual air-con
Other cars in the same group include Opel Zafira, Renault Scenic, Toyota Verso etc.
b) Possibly, and you don't need to use the rearmost 3rd row of seats, which provides extra luggage space. You'll need to reserve a suitable child seat - legal requirement throughout EU.
c) Possibly, but you need to ask specifically.

I'd make a bet, you won't get a Touran, but either a
Peugeot Partner Tepee or a Renault Kangoo if you're lucky.

They cost half of what the Touran costs and they are about the same size. Please do post what you'd actually get.

The Teepee I could do. I'll post a follow up with how it all turns out. As long as it's diesel I would be happy
