I decided it was time to lock down some more of our upcoming Turkey adventure: Istanbul - Cirali - Selcuk - Goreme - Istanbul for 15 days in early May. I had intended to drive the Cirali to Selcuk stretch with a stop at Pamukkale. While I considered this a great adventure, my wife was very verbal about her dread of it. Our last trip to Sicily highlighted her near-blinding fear of windy mountain roads & there was this mountain on our drive to Pamukkale . . .
Anyways, I started searching flights & now we will fly that part. For $364.11 (CDN $s), I got:
Istanbul to Antalya on Pegasus.
Antalya to Izmir via Ankara on Anadolu (Turkish Airlines)
Izmir to Kayseri on Pegasus
Kayseri to Istanbul on Pegasus
This is for 2 people not per person! I will rent cars in Antalya, Izmir & Kayseri for local careening. Sure I had to squeeze some things & juggle to work it out, but it should flow fine. And the schedules allowed me to book flights that don't destroy entire days with travel.

Wow: Flights in Anatolia are cheap . . .

I am glad that you booked at good rates and with a good schedule.
The drive from cirali to selcuk would actually have been great fun and nothing like the winding roads of Sicily. However, you would have needed at least one overnight to visit places like Arycanda, Myra, Kekova, Kas, Patara, Xanthos, Tlos, Pinara and Birgi on the way to pamukkale, and then aphrodisias towards Selcuk.
You can leave all that to your next visit once your wife gets to know more of the roads in turkey. (for part of that trip, you can read my trip report, "fumbling family.....")

- but she is much happier with less. And since it is her holiday as well, I must accommodate. She actually did compliment me after some hilltop hell in Piazza Armerina & that was a first.
The driving is always fun for me - well, maybe not always
I read your report. I must admit that I missed it in the Lounge since I typically only browse Europe, trolling the Turkey-tagged posts. I understand your comments re posting in Europe & the desultory responses you encounter. While any silly question about ‘familiar’ Europe will elicit a deluge of responses, I think that independent Turkey travellers are still relatively rare here. Perhaps Turkey is better represented elsewhere that I haven’t stumble across as yet. I had a similar experience posting about Cuba years ago with a near complete lack of knowledge beforehand & a pale response on my trip report etc. Many posters need to learn that a simple thank you will encourage some of the ‘experts’ to remain active.
I DO thank you & I DO appreciate your efforts. You (and others) have helped make Turkey an approachable destination for me & I am really looking forward to our trip.

Btw I sniffed out your Arykanda pictures. I was looking for an excuse to add it as a daytrip from Cirali. A great deserted ruin – my kind of place!
