Would you choose Italy or Greece at Thanksgiving?

Considering a possible trip to either Italy or Greece at Thanksgiving. Although it's not the idea time to visit Europe, DH and I have a week off and a couple airfare vouchers that make it a little more affordable. After researching previous posts we've narrowed the choices down to Rome/Pompeii/Amalfi Coast or Athens/Crete or Athens/Santorini. Which would you choose and any recommendations on lodging, restaurants, things to do that are still open at the end of November?

Definitely Italy. Santorini will be cold and damp then and almost everything will be closed up tight.

Agree, the Greek Island will be shut and ferries running on a much less frequent schedule.

At that time of year definitely focus on cities - not out of season beach resorts.

Rome is great at Thanksgiving--virtually no lines for the major sights, no need for air conditioning, and hot chocolate is in season. Plus getting there is pretty straightforward.

Thanksgiving is a great time to visit Athens. It's warm enough to tour in turtlenecks/jeans and no jackets. Avoid the islands though. With only a week, consider a trip outside of Athens to other spots on the mainland.

Similarly, Italy is also nice at Thanksgiving, but I wouldn't recommend the Amalfi Coast at this time of year. I have traveled to Tuscany/Umbria around Thanksgiving and its a wonderful time to visit.

Thanksgiving can be rainy and dreary on the Amalfi Coast. I'd stick with the cities.

I find it extremely odd that you came here to ask for advice on where to go on holiday and then booked you entire trip two hours after posting.

Proenza - I didn't anticipate booking tickets that quickly but soon after I posted my question I was checking Northwest website and found an incredible deal on Northwest for a ticket from Nashville to Rome for $289 + 20,000 miles that week. That INCLUDES all taxes and fees. I was incredulous. Checked the few responses I had and since most were already leaning toward Italy we booked it. As it turns out that deal disappeared a few minutes later (it is now about $600 and 50,000 miles for same ticket) so I'm glad we jumped on it. Still interested in things to do in November only now we know it will be Italy.
