Hi:
Since I will be needing cash to pay the cab driver to take me from Zagreb airport to my hotel in downtown, do you recommend getting the initial cash (300 kn) from here in the US or withdraw it at Zagreb airport?
Also, I read that it's best to agree on the price withthe driver. As per Rick Steves' 2007 book, 200kn is the correct price for the ride from the airport to downtown. But Lonely Planet says it should be 300kn. Do you have any advice based on your experiences?
Thanks,
D

It will be difficult and expensive to find kuna outside Croatia. That's why they are so eager to join the euro zone.
Get more rather than less to minimize your transfer fees, which are generally fixed by transaction rather than amount withdrawn.
I would think a 2007 guidebook would understate the cost rather than overstate it.
I would have a hundred euros with me to convert if for some reason my card didn't work in the available ATM. I actually didn't find an ATM that would accept my card in Zagreb for two days, but I had euros from an ATM at Frankfurt airport, so all was well.

So are you saying take "Euros" from here? If yes, then what if (instead) I carry my dollars and convert them to kunas at the airport?
Thanks,

Surely there will be more than one working atm at the airport--withdraw your kunas there.
There is also an airport bus to downtown.
There are lots of ATM machines in Croatia and I would recommend just taking money from them. There are several at the Zagreb airport.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
