Winery or Chateau in France. Need help!
I will be spending 9-10 days in France with my wife next April/May. We will spend some time with friends in Paris, then will have 5 days or so to explore a new part of the country for us. I am looking for somewhere quiet and romantic, and less hectic than the city. We love wineries, and would love to stay in a chateau of some kind. No tours for us, we usually explore on our own without much of a schedule. I am trying to narrow down a region even, but it seems a little overwhelming without much advice. Any help out there?

We loved our stay at Chateau de la Barre in 2009. Marnie and Guy are gracious hosts. We spent 5 days with them in 2009 and will return later this month. Beautiful region very close to the Loire Chateax but away from the crowds. www.chateaudelabarre.com

Well, wine regions, châteaux, and quiet, romantic spots are a dime a dozen in France, so perhaps start with what kind of wine you like to drink - that would at least begin to narrow down the myriad possibilities.

Yes, it does seem like maybe I could not do wrong with many regions/hotels. I guess I would love to hear about anything specific you folks have experienced. I also was reading about the canal tours in Burgundy. Any thoughts on that based on what I said above?

There are two choices - the quiet chateau for you to relax and do day trips in the area if you want - or the resort chateau - which has a ton of activities on site.
We stayed in the former near Chinon - Chateau des Reaux. Hosts were very welcoming and did dinner en famille several nights per week if you wanted to take part (all foods and some wine from the estate). And modestly priced.
But there are dozens of choices all over the country. Are there areas you've already seen or some that you really want to?

While doing my own research, I ran across this place & would stay here if my budget allowed:
