Will all grocery stores be closed on a Sunday afternoon in Rome?

We will arrive at the airport at 1:50 on a Sunday afternoon. I figure we'll get to our flat on the via dei Cappellari around 3:30 pm. Is it even worth looking around for a store to stock our flat with drinks and breakfast items, or will everything be closed?

It looks like a lot - but not all - of the restaurants are closed on Sunday evening. True?

There might be a mom-and-pop grocery open somewhere.

At most bars (= cafes), you can buy drinks - wine and often water as well - to take out in bottles.

For Monday breakfast, you can go down to one of the cafes and have a cappuccino and a cornetto (Italian croissant) before getting in the extra items you might want.

P.S. Many restaurants are open Sunday evening; there are quite a few that are closed, but there are plenty of others that are open.

Rome train stations have fair-sized supermarkets that are open all day and into the night on Sundays i believe. I supposed at the airport as well. At Termini i believe the supermarket is on the lower level. If you take the train in from the airport to Termini you can then stock up on some essentials and take a taxi to your hotel.

The Standa supermarket at 60 Viale Trastevere is open 7 days a week (caution - I think it's closed between 1:30 and 4:30 on Sundays) - it's in the basement of the Oviesse Department Store.

You could take a cab back.

PAM
Quality products and good bargains

Circonvallazione Aurelia, 23
Rome 00165

+39 066638049
Nearest Train Station Valle Aurelia

Neighborhood Aurelio - Pineta Sacchetti - Forte Bravetta

Opening Hours 9am-8pm Mon-Sun; closed Thurs afternoon

PAM is an enormous supermarket, found at many locations in Italy. This shop sells fresh fruit, vegetables, and fish, just-baked bread, as well as frozen food. There is good range in the clothing and household departments and there are interesting promotions and offers throughout the year. Visa accepted.

==============================

Not centrally located, of course, but then that's what you would expect - - a suburb location to have a place like this.

Best wishes,

Rex
