Why do the French Poke Holes in Sausages?

Jump to last reply

A French person visiting me in Michigan recently remarked, as I was BBQing some brats on the grills that in France we always poke holes in sausages or brats when grilling them. I asked why? She did not know.

Poking holes in brats, etc to me is unknown as we like to keep the juices in so why do the French poke holes in brats, etc.?

Curious - my friend is not a big BBQer so didn't know but I found it curious.

Why or why or am I mistaken that Americans don't do this too and I may be way behind the times (as usual!)?

Or is that even true?
