Which would you give up--a day exploring Achill Island or Beara Peninsula?

Which would you give up--a day exploring Achill Island or Beara Peninsula?
I can do one or the other. Doing both would simply be too much time in the car. So which would you give up and why?

I'm with Tony....been to both and love 'em both.
Well, this post is useless as I can't decide. You might as well ask which of my grandchildren I would give up.
If you choose Beara, don't miss Gleninchaquin Park. Or the cable car to Dursey Island. Achill Island...Keem Bay, Minaun Heights, beach at Keel.
I'm going to pack.....

Thank you all. I think we will spend a night or two on Achill
Okay, then, next question. After Achill we will spend two nights in Clifden. We are not going to the Cliffs of Mohr. If we go to Dingle it will probably be a drive through and one night at most, but I am voting to skip it, considering we will have seen nothing but magnificent views up to this point. We do want to spend a day or two exploring the Burren. Can you recommend a B&B or two close to the Burren knowing that our next stop is Kenmare?

Ennis always gets my vote for a night in Clare. we use Grey Gables which is right in town but far enough to the side to avoid noise etc. Brogans is our bar of choice for drinks, food, music. From an Ennis base you can set off around 9am head past Bunratty and under the Shannon, call into Adare or Listowel. Then drive over the Connor into Dingle round Slea Head and be in Kenmare before 6pm

If you really want to get close to the Burren, consider Rocky View Farm House http://rockyviewfarmhouse.com near Fanore. We loved it.

Do you have room reserved in Clifden? I can recommend the Abbeyglen-wonderful small hotel with house party atmosphere and some famous people have stayed there-Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, John Lindsay and others. The food is very good-breakfast and the dinners. Clifden is convenient for hikes in the Connemara and a visit to Kylemore Abbey.

On Achill Island I can highly recommend The Bervie...not sure if it is a B&B or a guesthouse but it is a wonderful place to stay. 'Tis a bit more pricey than the standard B&B but worth it. http://www.bervie-guesthouse-achill.com . Ah, I see that they call themselves a guesthouse. It's a restored coast guard station. You can walk through the garden, out the lych-gate and right onto a lovely beach.

I read this post with interest as we did enjoy Achill Island and want to spend more time there in the future.
So thanks jaja, for the B&B recommendation.
We thought the Beara Pen. would be on our list for the next time we visit. Now it will be for sure.
We agree with Tony--- stayed at Grey Gables in Ennis and thought the location was perfect for walking around the town to dinner & bars.

We will bypass Dingle altogether and spend two-three days on Achill and have a full day or more exploring Beara. Is anyone familiar with Stella Maris Guest House on Achill? One more question and I think we've got it. How much time should we allow to drive from Clifden to Kenmare without stops (we'll factor them in later)? One person from a b&b in Kenmare said 4.5 hours, but if I use T2P's method of calculating (divide miles by 30) it looks more like 6.5 hours. Thanks much!

You have motorway from Gort to south of the Shannon so that cuts things a little but 5 hours would be safe, any less a big bonus.. I would though split that trip and see some of Clare on the way. 2 days for Achill would be fine Stellamaris in Keel is fine, lacks a bit of character perhaps but is very nice and good location. We have used Achill Isle House since the Greystone has closed.
