Which SIM Card is better? GEOSIM or United Mobile???
Somebody please help.. i am coming to the end of my planning and a SIM card is one of the final things i need.
I just recently purchase a brand new unlocked quad-band Motorola L6 phone, and will be travelling through the following:
Italy, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Austria.
Which one of these SIM Cards are better and why? Thanks!
GEOSIM

I'll give you a non answer...it depends on a lot of factors...they both provide free reception of calls throughout Western Europe...perhaps some slight differences in Central and Eastern Europe, you will have to check which countries you are visiting are involved.
Geosim gives you UK number (+44 country code) even though it's the Isle of Man...calling in will be at UK cellular rates...United Mobile gives you Liechtenstein number (+423 country code)....in general calls to +44 are cheaper than calls to+423....but for example on my AT&T ld plan, calls to the UK mobiles cost 29¢/minute and calls to Liechtenstein mobiles cost 11¢/minute...also callback world charges in the vicinity of 40¢/minute for calls to the USA on UK mobiles but 14¢/minute on Liechtenstein mobiles.
Another factor is many geo sim cards expire after 180 days or there is a £10 charge every year to renew it!
United Mobile requires one billing episode every 9 months...sending a text message for 0,39€ (although the card can be denominated in USD) does the trick for that!
But be aware that many US long distance carriers charge very high rates to call Liechtenstein mobiles so you have to take that all into consideration...I have used both and the quality of the calls is no different as it is dependent on the network you are roaming on and they all roam on the same networks!

I also have the Geosim, I will be using it roaming all over Europe. I researched the subject a lot and that's what I decided to use. I'm hoping it will be up to expectations. So far I can say that using their web interface for making long-distance calls is very cheap. I have the dual-SIM with UK & US numbers so I have reception in Canada as well. Plus the UK number never expires.

Do you have to buy a sim card before you travel to Amsterdam for example? In Scotland I just got it at a local store (I forgot the name.) They were all over. Is there any place at the airport to buy one?

No you don't and for the most part they're easy to buy and very cheap. Most newstands in Amsterdam sell lebarra or lycos sim cards for next to nothing.
Rates differ in various countries and there's always the problem of letting people know your local number. At least with geosim, e-kit or any of the international sim cards, your number doesn't change as you go from country to country but with eu roaming rates scheduled to hit all time lows on 01 July and with the fall of the euro (now hovering at about $1.25) you can go with at least for receiving calls most any European sim as long as you are within the eu although calls to outside the eu will be expensive once you leave the country of origin.
Incidentally, this is a very old thread as you can see and I'm too lazy to go through the whole thing but United Mobile, which served a great purpose, is long since kaput as is O9 (which operated out of Iceland) and manyu of the Estonian cards...the problem being that termination feres for ld calls from North American to Estonia, Iceland adn Liechtenstein became very very expensive. The cards available today have both +1 (USA) and +44 (UK..really Jersey or Isle of Man) numbers which have more reasonable termination fees but still rely on, for outgong calls, the callback system which sometimes is unreliable.
