Which route from Montalcino-Asciano-Castellina in Chianti?

Jump to last reply

On a drive from Rome to Castellina in Chianti, we plan to stop in Pienza & Montalcino, then drive through the area around Asciano, up to SR222 to Castellina in Chianti.

My question: Which route is most scenic from Montalcino to Asciano, considering also that we will not have time to make stops (eg Abbazia de Monte Oliveto Maggiore):
- Drive SP451, past Abbazia de Monte Oliveto Maggiore to Asciano
- or SP14 via San Giovanni d'Asso to Asciano

Thank you!
