I would go with Malepartus. They use good local products and the service is about 10 times better than in Wagners. The food is outstanding there. Our whole family goes to Malepartus for birthdays, anniversaries and we take friends and visitors there all the time.
Wagners is just plain rude. I have never had such awful service in a restaurant as what I experienced in Wagners and many of my friends who used to take visiting family or colleagues there have now stopped. It is just a tourist place now.

MainhattenG: I've never been to Malepartus but I became quite intrigued after reading your review since I'm heading back to Frankfurt soon. Interestingly some reviews mentioned that Malepartus is owned and run by a Dutch couple for the last two years and they also serve indian dishes as their cook is an Indian.
I can hardly believe that a Dutch.....would buy a German restaurant and then...add indian dishes??? That said, all reviewers seem to like the generous food amount and quality.

You would be surprised how many "German" restaurants have Indians, as well as other foreigners as cooks in the kitchens.
All I know is that the food there is excellent, fresh and the folks working there are pleasant and friendly. I think these owners have been running Malepartus for quite a few more years than 2. I am guessing about 12 years, as I remember them taking it over. Way back in the day it had been a good place and then started going downhill about 15 years ago. Once the present owners took it over, it revived and now gets great reviews.
(sorry if this is t.m.i.) I live right around the corner from this place, so know it pretty well.

Thank you Mainhattengirl so much! We have several hours to kill between flights, so we decided to enjoy Frankfurt. Is it too far to walk from the Haupthoff (?)to Malepartus? Which local dishes would you recommend to order there?

Good to hear MainhattenG, I may just consider giving it a try too. If you don't mind, could you also tell us your favorite Italian restaurant in Frankfurt if you have any? I've been finding that the Italian restaurants in Frankfurt in general are better than those in Rome, so I always try a new Italian restaurant when I'm in Frankfurt. Last time I followed Prinz magazine recommendation but was not as impressed.

These are recommendations from the expat locals in Frankfurt for Italian restaurants:

You can't walk from the Hauptbahnhof to Malepartus. Well, you could, but it would take a while. Best is to take the U-4 from the train station to Bornheim Mitte (9 min.) and Malepartus is a 5 min. walk from there. Google it to find a map. Altenative if you like riding above ground, is to take tram #11 from the Hauptbahnhof to Alleheiligentor, get off and then get on the #14 tram and take that to Freiligrath Strasse. Malepartus is right around the corner on this street. This whole trip will take about 20 min. or so, but you get to see a lot of the city and the ride is interesting. The #11 goes past the ECB, the Römer, the Museum of Modern Art, the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Wall, and once you get on the #14, you go past the Zoo and will be in Bornheim.
