Which Paris Marriott do you prefer?
My husband and I are going to be in Paris the end of May and we're trying to decide between the Marriott on Rue St Jacques or the one on the Champs Elysees, taking into consideration both the neighborhood and the hotel. Has anyone stayed in both for a comparison?

ask the manager kindly.

It is not on rue St Jacques which is in the Latin Quarter, I'm sure.
The Marriott Rive Gauche is on BLVD St Jacques, completely difference area, in the 14th arr near metro St Jacques. It is actually halfway between that metro and Glaciere, exactly, almost on the border of the 14th and 13th arr. It's actually kind of dull over there, a lot of govt buildings, but it's on a busy main boulevard. One could certainly debate which location was more "sterile".
I think neither one of these locations is what most tourists would ideally want, so it's hard to tell. Some folks would actually love the Champs-Elysees location, and it is more "central" to things you probably want to do. It's just on a very very busy commercial street, of course.
The other one is used more by business people, I'd say, but is in a more regular neighborhood but it will take you a while on the metro to get more places and you may not get the thrill or buzz if you just walk outside and around the neighborhood. I think the metro runs right by the hotel, maybe literally (as the metro is above ground around there, and runs on tracks over the street). I'd find out about that and if it is noisy.

I've stayed in the Marriott on St. Jacques and as much as I like most Marriotts I have stayed in I would NOT ever stay in that one again.
Why?
The rooms are VERY small and despite the recurrent BS here about all rooms in Paris hotels being small (which they certainly aren't but if you're a cheapskate then SAYING they are all small gives you some sort of consolation I guess)..in fact, the room was the smallest room I have stayed in in ANY hotel.
The location: it is half-way between two Metro stops but to get to almost ANY major attraction in the city will take you forever it seems and several changes at the very least.
The staff were friendly, the place was clean, but I think you can stay in better locations.

We've stayed at the Paris Marriott on the Champs three or four times and once at the Renaissance on the Avenue Wagram. The staff in both places were more than accommodating. (In 2000, the Concierge at the Marriott even managed to score two very good tickets for the Magic Flute at the Opera Garnier. This was the first production after the restoration of the Chagall ceiling and we had tried everything we could to get tickets for the Saturday before Christmas.)
The Renaissance has very cool architecture. The Marriott rooms are larger and the bathrooms all have tubs and stall showers. When we go back, and use points, we will stay at the Marriott because it is very close to a metro station as well as several cafes where we can get a light breakfast.
