Which is the cheapest country (and gorgeous) in Europe?

I hail from India and I want to travel in limited budget. Thanks to Airbnb's and Euro rail that budget trip is sort of possible but I want to figure out where should I start from considering air tickets are highly expensive.

NishthaKumar, if you want to travel on a budget, it would make sense to say what your budget is and what you want it to include.

For example, a single person staying in hostel dormitories, eating supermarket food and paying for a the occassional beer or museum entry can manage on 60-70 Euros per day in most of Western Europe. That does not include transportation costs if moving around.

Someone who wants to stay in 3 star hotels and eat in restaurants for most meals however will need a couple of hundred Euros per day at least.

If you don't say HOW you want to travel and what you want to be able to afford, how can anyone suggest anywhere to you? To write, "limited budget" is meaningless unless you define the budget and what it must cover.

Bulgaria might be the cheapest. Turkish Airlines was the cheapest way for us to get there and Paris when we went there last year from the U.S. West Coast. But this perhaps not what you had in mind. If cost is the primary issue and you have not traveled outside your country before, a tour might turn out to be the best for your budget.

Greece and Portugal, as well as Eastern Europe are less expensive locations in Europe.

Why not just do a little work and spend some time on an airline aggregator's website and find out where would be the cheapest for you to fly? How can anyone else tell you, we don't even know where you are flying from, except somewhere in India. Also, cheap countries for cost of living are not necessarily at all the cheapest to fly into. The cheapest to fly into are usually those served by a lot of major airlines and one of their hubs.

London is often about the cheapest city to fly into from the US, but that doesn't make the UK cheap in terms of costs. So I suspect the cheapest city for you to fly into is not going to be Belgrade or Sophia.

You've flagged your topic "Czech Republic"--when we were in Prague several years ago, it was not particularly inexpensive. Perhaps the rest of the Czech Republic would be, depending on the exchange rate.

Well, there's Moldova. And Albania. Probably not quite what you had in mind. Maybe Portugal or Greece. If you go to the Lonely Planet website, they have suggested budgets for three levels of comfort for all European countries.

Bulgaria is indeed one of the cheapest and is developing to accept tourists.
Albania... not so sure.

Your question is impossible to answer.

What, exactly, is your budget (in euros or other European currency)?

Don't assume that "Euro rail" is going to be cheap.

How long a trip do you envision, and at what time of year?

To get useful answers, you have to ask useful questions.

Yes Albania, Moldova, and Bulgaria might be cheap, but they're not that exciting to visit.

I've found Spain, with the exception of Barcelona, to be very affordable.

Portugal, Poland, Hungary, and Greece also won't break the bank.

Oh, I don't know. Have visited all three and found them at least interesting. Bulgaria would definitely rate a return. Another somewhat off the radar place I found surprisingly worthwhile was Macedonia.

Yeah "at least interesting", but that's about it. They're not France or Italy.

Since there are too many places in this world, and so little time, one has to choose carefully.

It'd be a shame to travel all the way to Europe to see Chisinau or Sofia instead of Paris or Florence. No matter how cheap they might be.

I thought Poland was inexpensive. I really enjoyed visiting and would definitely revisit.

Czech Republic was quite inexpensive too. Or maybe I just thought I got a lot of bang for my buck there. And I didn't find Prague expensive as expensive as Venice or Paris or Rome, for example, but I'm sure there are cheaper places.
