Which city is the best for nightlife for older twentysomethings?

I have been posting for a few months on traveling to Greece and then Provence next June. We have been flip-flopping, consulting our twentysomething kids, researching, asking questions, and finally yesterday talking to a financial advisor about our retirement and whether we will be eating cat food if we spend our money on European travel. Well, the financail advisor gave a big thumbs up on our financial state, the twentysomethings are in and out on this trip, the plans have changed and changed again based on all these things. So I appreciate all the advice on Greece and Provence BUT we are still undecided about where to go. One of our kids is going FOR SURE and the other is on the fence at this time, depending on her life situation and job situation and time off situation. Anyhoo, the kid who is in loves adventure travel and has been everywhere and requested at least one city that is 'sexy' and has nightlife. Since he and I are going to be the planners, and I am happy that one of our kids actually would travel with his old folks, I'd like to include such a city. Our daughter, who might go, has only been to France and Britain, so I think it would be best to go elsewhere. Our son, the one who is going AND providing Marriott points for some of the places we stay, wants to go to a variety of places, not just one. We are going in early June and I imagine my husband and I will stay 2 weeks, but the kids may be with us less than that. I know it is confusing, but welcome to my world! So anyway, any advice? Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion, Bob. Always good advice from you! I have to say, though, that I should have stated that we would probably not go to Spain. Just a personal preference. Any other ideas?

Are you tied to Marriott points--that may limit your options.

Athens has plenty of nightlife -- to find out about it, check the Trip Advisor forum... plenty of under 30s who live in Athens; a list of the most happening clubs... also go to Crete (Hania) ... The Old Town is wonderful to stay itn, and after 11 p,m your son can walk just east of the Old Harbour into New and find Hania's hottest youth living it up in trendy clubs & bars until dawn.

Oh no, we are not tied to Marriott points. Just thinking of trying to use them for part of the trip. Thanks for the good suggestions. I know my son spent Christmas in Berlin one year and really liked it. He did study abroad in Athens and also liked it a lot. Perhaps one of those two cities. Or Amsterdam. We are going to continue to try and formulate a travel plan when both kids come home for Thanksgiving. Thanks!

Go to the Greek island of Santorini. There's something for every age there. The nightlife is very lively in the main village. The archaeology is unique and the views from the cliffs over the sea are spectacular.

Mykonos is the party island, I think.

You'll get lots of nightlife in places like Heronissos in Crete. I wouldn't step in them for love nor money. In Provence, there's lots of hip places on the Riviera.

Berlin, for sure. London for sure. Prague (maybe too many stag weekenders), or Edinburgh.

What a dilemma.

But I'm curious about the "kid who has been everywhere". Where exactly has he been.

I find the word "everywhere" odd, so please elaborate.

Would help in offering suggestions.

Sorry to confuse you, Afterall. I just meant that compared to his sister, he has been to all the major and some minor European capitals and around Asia. Certainly not everywhere. My question has been answered quite nicely. Thanks! This helps, Fodorites.
