Which of these two apartments do you think is better for a couple and two teens for 5 days in July? The teens have been to Paris once before for 4 days. I'm not sure if the first apartment has air conditioning but will find out. I'd like the teens to feel as if they are living in Paris (see deranged aunt thread).

I love the first apartment, the location is good tho you'll be in a very busy area, probably good for such a short visit. In looking at the description it does say AC so that's a plus if needed.

Which ever you choose, have a nice visit to Paris.

The Paris Perfect apt is brand new.we rent from them when we are in Paris and have had very good experiences.

Well, they both are in Paris, so wouldn't worry about that feeling.

I wouldn't have thought the place Dauphine was that convenient a location myself, if I had a choice, but the description claims there are cafes and restaurants on it. I don't recall, haven't been thre in a while. At least you aren't too far from two metro stops, Pont Neuf and the Cite. But I would never rent an apt at ground level, that's just personal, you must not care about that. You can even see in those photos that not just the living room, but one of the bedrooms, there are people walking by right outside the window. No thanks. It says it has AC but be warned that Parisperfect doesn't allow you to use it at night, when you need it, they say it is noise regulations (it's in their terms). The apt looks beautiful otherwise, except I find it suspicious that they don't have any photos of the bedroom with twin beds. It's probably fine, just curious why they don't show it.

The second one is also on an island, but it is farther from a metro stop (Sully). There is a bus that runs along there, though. It isn't as beautiful in the photos, but looks comfortable enough and is on the 3rd floor. Those staircases are too scary for me, though.

They both are very expensive, of course, you want a 2 BR, so I guess I'd go with the first one IF you don't care at all bout the ground level thing and no AC at night. That's a lot of $$$ to pay for no AC in July. But I don't think the other one has any, either. That's why I stay in a hotel when I'm in Paris in summer usually.

so both look very nice, though. You probably don't have much choice at this late date although maybe more is available at that price bracket. This agency also has a lot of 2 BR apts on the islands, people like them a lot

From just skimming the listings -- it is almost certain both apartments are illegal rentals.

To be on the safe side -- rent a flat for your London days and stay in a hotel (or aparthotel like Citadines) in Paris.

Given the crackdown on illegal apartment rentals in Paris, I wouldn't rent an apartment there. If you want apartment-sized space, Citadines would be a good option.

With the current turmoil, even though I love staying in apartments in Paris -- I personally would not rent now. I'd just be contributing to the problem.

Once the City gets things under control and we can verify a place is legal, registered, and the taxes paid -- then I'll be happy to rent again . . . though w/ the increased costs after all that happens, flats won't be the bargain they've been in the past . . .

They are both illegal rentals, which won't reflect on you unless the mayor's office scouts them out and terminates them as rentals. In which case you could be suddenly on the street.

You can feel like you are living in Paris in any number of ways. If an apartment is important to you, rent from a legal outfit like Citadines or Aparthotels. I'm not exactly sure I can fathom how that equates to "feeling like they're living in Paris, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. If you rent from Paris Perfect, you "feel like you are rich and famous" too - so what's the point? Fantasy?

I'm not even sure what "feeling like you're living in Paris" means, but if it means taking out the garbage and separating the sac jaunes from the normal sacs and understanding the complicated instructions and symbols on the washer and dryer and deciphering the codes to get into the apartment and figuring out the settings on the lave-vaisselle - go for it. That's what being in an apartment entails unless you are paying Paris Perfect prices to shield you from all that, in which case you aren't "living in Paris."

Thanks for your comments. I really like the apartment apersuader65 stayed in but it is not available for our days. I would be more concerned about the apartment situation in Paris if I was booking far ahead and apartments could be removed in the interim. As a statistician I estimate that the chance of problems for us is very slim. In the worst case, we'll have to check into a hotel and argue with the credit card company. I think the first apartment is legal since the entire building has been converted to short term rentals. I do share Christina's concern about the first floor and the beamed ceiling which can decapitate those taller than 6 feet (my husband). That's no doubt a more likely outcome than being evicted.

Do you think the locations of the apartments are too dead for teens to find interesting?

The first one does have ac but the second I don't think it does. I love the terrace on the second but ac is nice if you get a heat wave but if they won't let you use it at night what the heck. That is crazy. Did you look at vacationinparis?

You can call them, located in NJ and talk to them which is nice imo.

Watch out for Paris perfect..don't rent an apt with ac that you cannot use at night..that is why it is still available at this late date

The 1st apartment is in Paris Perfect's renovated bldg at 25 Place Dauphine. There are 6 apartments, all of which are 1 bedroom. There's a full bathroom off the bedroom and a powder room off the kitchen. Sleep sofa in the living room. You can have the bed in the bedroom made into a queen or 2 twins.

So, it's not as big as the 2nd apartment which has 2 bedrooms. But that might not matter to you for 5 nights.

I would definitely want AC in July. While Place Dauphine is quiet with cafes and restaurants, it's just a short walk off the island to the Latin Quarter which your teens would like.

OMG!!! You HAVE to stay in the 25 Place Dauphine Apartment and report back!!!

We have been staying at this address since my very first trip to Paris in 1980... and probably a dozen times since. Hotel Henri IV (which is Constantly confused on TA with the other nearby Hotel Henri IV ... so you can't tell from TA reviews that it has actually been closed for a while.)

We were just in Paris and did not stay this time because I couldn't get ahold of them and because.... well... we're getting just a bit too old for the kind of charming, perfectly located flea bag hotel we loved so.

We walked by to see whether it actually had closed, and there was no sign.. the waiter said it was being renovated. He seemed to think it would reopen as a hotel.. but it looks like it's been made into a beautiful apartment. I wonder whether the top floors will be apartments as well??

So i vote Place Dauphine... the location is perfection.. we enjoyed walking across the bridge to and from the metro. With children, they will be able to hang out at the little park outside your window. It's a very quiet little park where people play games and just sit and enjoy. There are quite a few restaurants on the little place. You can leave your windows open at night, because there is virtually no car traffic along the front.

Mostly, I want you to stay there and report back on this thread!!! I admire your apartment budget... we will probably never be able to stay on that little street again....

Paris Perfect will tell if you cannot use the AC at night. We just got back from Paris and enjoyed a month stay at a Paris Perfect Apt. We have been renting from them for 8 years now and have had no problems whatsoever. They know what they are doing. Their customer service is top notch. We have never been concerned about being kicked out of our rental.


I like the first apt. Have a great time in Paris!

The second apartment does show a portable a/c unit, perhaps there is another - they will have to be vented through the windows. It also shows a "sani-broyer" electric toilet - these toilets are extremely temperamental and I wouldn't choose an apartment which had one. There is one regular toilet. This apartment is on a small street, with no restaurants nearby.

The first apartment does not show any a/c vents - if there is a/c it might be the portable units, which would have to be vented through the windows. Not a good choice for someone sleeping on the ground floor, or if you are sensitive to noise which will come from the restaurants and their delivery trucks.

Ile de la Cite is not "kilometre zero" - this is the brass button in front of Notre Dame, on Ile Saint-Louis.

Though it is true that ParisPerfect has bought the entire building - I'm not certain if they have finished the renovations, and would ask about that - it is not registered as a hotel, and does not conform to the legal requirements of a short-term rental.

The first apartment is not legal, either - but I would prefer its location to Place Dauphine.

The Paris Perfect apartments at Place Dauphine could very well be legally approved as short term rentals by the city. I cannot say specifically which of their apartments qualify but PP is the only agency, of which I am aware, that has a number of legal rentals. I am sure that there are others.

The city register shows legal vacation apartments a 21 Place Dauphine which could be the PP apartment.

I do find troubling the <i>I don´t care if it´s illegal</i> attitude to which some visitors subscribe. There are reasons why there are rental laws and there are risks, increasing more of them, for those who ignore the laws.
