Where/How to find good quality flamenco during a first visit to Andalucia?

We will be visiting Andalucia in the off season, 3 weeks in March edging into April, I am trying to understand where to find good quality flamenco performances. We will be in Cordoba, Seville, Jerez and the Costa del Sol on a slow enough pace that we will have time to seek out each city's flamenco.

I'm just not sure if we will find this combined with a restaurant meal, at a local bar or a theatre. I think I would rather be somewhere food is not served; unless it is not too distracting. Can we buy tickets the same day as a performance or are reservations required? Will we also find included performances by guitar soloists along with flamenco dance? Knowing that my husband enjoys listening to classical guitarists more than watching dance, I can entice him to watch flamenco if there will likely be a guitar solo included in the program We attended a wonderful flamenco performance at the Barcelona Palau de la Musica Catalana during our last visit to Spain.

Can you give me any suggestions/tips how or where to find good flamenco in the cities we will be visiting? Thank you, Deborah

The Festival de Jerez ends 23 Feb, but there will still be some great flamenco to be found in late March.

Jerez:
The prestigious Festival de Jerez goes on from Feb 21 to March 8. World class flamenco artists in Jerez theaters every night. The song and the guitar are the two basic elements of flamenco, and I can almost guarantee that every dance performance during the festival will include a solo guitarist. Buy tickets as soon as possible: http://www.flamenco-world.com/notici....html#programa

The closing concert with Joaquin Grilo and David Peña Dorantes in Teatro Villamarta on Saturday March 8 is bound to be spectacular. This gives you an idea of the two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOjtXiPl8Rk

Sevilla:
Living flamenco dance legend Manuela Carrasco performs in old world Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla March 21 and 22. Joaquin Amador and Paco Iglesias on guitar.

In Sevilla, I also recommend intimate Casa de la Memória or Casa del Flamenco. Both are popular with tourists, but only top artists perform here. Both song, guitar, and male and female dancer. No food, no drinks, just flamenco. Pastora Galván was voted best female flamenco dancer 2010 by Spanish critics, and she has danced in Casa de la Memória regularly during the past years. She sets the standard for the rest of the artists here. Changing artists every night.

Málaga/Costa del Sol:
Serious flamenco events in Málaga are updated here:

Haven't been to Kelipé yet, but looks and sounds like a laid-back and fine place. Both song, guitar and dance. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday: http://www.kelipe.net/inicio.html

A very detailed March agenda will eventually be updated here: http://www.guiaflama.com/agenda/

...hm, I see now that you will come to Jerez after the festival.

Then Casa Tia Juana la del Pipa is a must for the atmosphere. Juana herself is a major flamenco star, a fabulous cantaora (singer): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rUeNZImQeA

Great flamenco artists every now and then in small and genuine Bar Gitanería. Friday nights should be a sure bet for live and not touristy at all performances: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bar-G...47746635237714

Peña la Bulería is the flamenco temple of Jerez: http://www.labuleriajerez.com/es

Thank you, this is the helpful information I needed. Unfortunately, our travel dates do not allow us to be in Jerez or Seville for the performances you mention, kimhe. Thanks again, Deborah

Then I would go for Casa de la Memória or La Casa del Flamenco in Sevilla. Only great guitarists and singers and fabulous dancers.

You could also take a look at Tablao Cardenal in Córdoba: http://www.tablaocardenal.es/

kimhe, thanks, I was researching on TripAdvisor and saw the Tablao Cardenal. I'll check the link you provided for the March agenda in Cordoba. Deborah

kimhe, could you please give your opinion between these choices for flamenco. It's on my birthday so I'd like to celebrate with some flamenco

One performance is with Pedro Cintas and the other is with Siliva Perea and Ramon Jimenez. These are on Thursday, March 14th in Cordoba. I found them listed on the March agenda you provided. Many thanks, Deborah

I think the second option might be an experience. I don't know the artists, but this a local peña (flamenco club) and the atmosphere at such nights can be very special. The local flamenco clubs are always very welcoming to outsiders, and usually the entrance is free or just some 5-10€. The Fosforito peña is located in Taberna de las Beatillas which look like an excellent place, one of the really traditional Córdoba Tabernas: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Andalucia.html
homepage: http://tabernabeatillas.com/
About the taberna: http://www.cordoba24.info/tavernen/h...tillas_en.html

The Pedro Cintas concert is in Pozoblanco, in the Córdoba region but far from the city itself.

Thank you, kimhe, I didn't realize until after I posted the question and did more online research that Pozoblanco is not part of Cordoba city I also saw that the bus does not run late enough to get back to Cordoba after the performance. Taberna de las Beatillas sounds like an ideal place for flamenco. Thanks again for taking the time to give me so much help, Deborah
