Where to stay last night in Italy when flying out of Pisa

We are flying out of Pisa to return home following a trip to 5terre and a week in Tuscany renting house near Barbarino Val D'Elsa. Will return rental car Saturday anywhere near Pisa or Lucca (no set plans yet). Want to stay within 30 minute cab ride from airport but not necessarily in Pisa. We were thinking Lucca but any other suggestions. Remember, we may not have a car. Any suggestions?

Viareggio is on the train line. How early is your flight?

There are also buses or trains from Lucca to the airport. The connections are listed on the airport website.

Hello my reliable Italy information friend! Our flight: while not booked yet, we are looking at the 13:15 flight out of Pisa. So, it is not the usual 7:30 flights from this area and we can at least have a bit of breathing room to get to airport.

We loved Lucca. Rent a bike and ride on the city walls.

You could of course just stay in the Cinque Terre through your final night. It's not that far from Pisa. In fact, you probably won't want a car in the CT, anyway. Can you dump the car ahead of time after you're done in Tuscany and just train from the Cinque Terre down to Pisa for that nice afternoon flight? I don't think the train ride is that long; leave by 8am and you could be at Pisa airport with plenty of extra time.
