My husband and I are going to Oktoberfest in Munich and plan to spend 3-4 days in Switzerland afterward. We will be taking the train from Munich to our destination and then taking the train to Zurich to fly home.
We are trying to determine where to stay. We would like a town/city with charm that is not too small. We plan to do some outdoor activities but we also like exploring European cities and towns. I understand that there are not major cities in this area, but we'd like a place that has more than just a couple restaurants, etc.
We are planning on spending our last night in Zurich before we fly home, so we have 3 nights to work with.
Also, what kind of weather should we expect?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Where to stay in the Swiss Alps in late September?

Hi LucysMom08,
I just moved to a town south of Münich and love to travel to Switzerland, so I researched a lot the easiest and fastest ways to go there.
The closest and easiest part of Switzerland from München will be the city of Scuol, in the Engadin Valley. From Scuol, you can explore the gorgeous and historical village of Guarda as well as Ardez, Pontresina, Sils, and of course St. Moritz. Taking the Bernina Express over the Bernina Pass to Poschiavo for one day would be a total treat! Or you could ascend some of the local peaks -- I'm not familiar with them but could research if you want.
Some sites to get you started:
www.scuol.ch
www.pontresina.ch
www.engadin.stmoritz.ch
Oh, by the way, there are quite a few cities in Switzerland! Whoever told you there aren't any major cities? There are Bern, Luzern, Zürich, Basel --
Anyway, have fun. Let us know as you need more info!
s
Luzern is ~1hr by train from Zurich. We love the city and it's surrounding area(s).
Have a great trip.
