Where to stay in the Netherlands, we are visiting Amsterdam etc

Our family of 4 (2 adults+ 2 kids 10, 12) are going to the Netherlands easter week. We are planning on visiting Amsterdam, Delft, Keukenhof, Volendam and Marken and any other town that seems interesting. Where should we stay to be centrally located? We will have our car. Any tips or interesting things we should see and do there? Thanks so much!!!

You would get a lot more responses if you gave us more information. We have no idea what your budget is, what you like to do, and certainly not how long you plan to spend in each of the places you mention. Also, it seems rather late to be booking hotels for Easter week.

Just wanted to add taht the 2 rooms are separated by a kitchen/living room area that would be perfect for families.

Your family might find Leiden interesting with its Pilgrim history. This is where the Pilgrims lived before sailing to
present day New England on the Mayflower. There is a museum and also the church where they worshiped. It is a beautiful small city, many canals and a large windmill, on the train line from Amsterdam.

Haarlem is pretty nice, and not too difficult for driving.

Planning a day in each? but what about travelling to and from either where you are staying (central location) or the town you have visited before. Although distances are not so great sometime the traffic can be bad and heavy.
In the end you may find that you end up with little time to get the feel of a place.
With 2 young children maybe given them a break from the culture and visit The Efterling.
http://www.efteling.com/ it is for adults too you know!
For hotels and reviews look through this website.

From your profile see that you have given up on a lot our previous suggestions.

Hopefully you find something of use this time.

Your kids will love Madurodam. After that go to Duinrell for fun.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I am using booking.com and they are very good for hotels. We look forward to our trip! By the way I have read about a few places to visit the windmills in the Netherlands and years ago my husband and went on a little boat trip through a group of windmills, does anyone know where this might be, we cannot remember. Thanks again!

Zaanse Schans has boat trips along the windmills, which you can also walk along and visit.
Kinderdijk also has a boat trip around the mills. That would be my favourite. It runs from April 1st.
