Where to stay in Sestri Levante
Through many questions and helpful answers from this forum, we've finally decided on our itinerary. After Rome, we are heading to the beach at Sestri Levante. The internet pictures look terrific and we've been told it's just what we're looking for. My question is: where to stay? We'll be there 3 nights and since there are 4 of us, we will either need an apartment or 2 hotel rooms, though we would prefer the apartment. Can anyone help with a resource? Thanks so much! The value of your help is immeasurable!

having just assaulted other posters for parading as Italy experts, I'm going to duck that one and just explain where I'm coming from on these recs:
I didn't like the hotel I stayed in when I was in Sestri Levante, but I loved the town and think it's a great choice. So I googled up some possibilities, which I recommend that you check out.
If you would be willing to go for something truly Italian and affordable, typically family run with a kitchen, basic decor but full of quirky and slightly nutty charm, this place that I came across on Tripadvisor has a sweet location and great reviews. I would go for two rooms (doubles):

More conventional 3* hotels that you might e-mail to see if they have a 4-bed suite or quadruple room, or if two doubles would be affordable: Hotel Helvetia, Vis a Vis and the Grande Albergo, and you might consider the attic rooms at Hotel Miramare (scroll down this link):

I'd suggest the Castelli, but I would expect it to be expensive.
Also, you should google up the following hotels which are lower in price and basic. You can look at pictures to see if it's too basic for you. The Hotel Sereno is well located and has affordable doubles (I would ask if it is quiet.) The tiny Albergo Villa Rosa has a sweet in-town location and looks very family run and is surely incredibly cheap. (Webiste doesn't say.)
And this place is interesting and very affordable, but I would ask about quiet and whether it is comfortable for 4 adults. It appears to be a longer walk to the beach and train, I think, than some of the above hotels, but not more than 20 minutes.

This rental apartment looks big enough for you and is well located and allows stays of less than one week Rental apartments in Sestri tend to be furnished with IKEA at best, to accommodate families who spend all their time on the beach.

Because Sestri Levante is much more Italian than it is American, hotel websites are often unhelpful to English-speaking users, although very often hotel staff that answers e-mails or phone calls speak perfect English. So I would just try e-mails (and note that Hotel Marina has posted a notice on its website saying they've had trouble with their e-mails, so please call or fax if you don't get a reply.)
Sestri Levante is a great alternative to the crowds of foreign tourists in le Cinque Terre, and a lot of fun, with great food.

Hi,
take a look to Hotel Miramare http://www.miramaresestrilevante.com/ It's a nice 4 star hotel facing the sea. Charming and spacious room. Helpful and accommodating staff.

deniseredeker, you had commented on a post awhile back about an appartment you stayed in Rome, it was Apartment AP49 - MARGUTTA from Rome-accomidations.net. I am looking to book that appartment for an upcoming trip this fall but I am concerned as left over smoke causes problems for my allergies & they do not have a no-smoking policy. Can you tell me much about that appartment? Much thanks for your help!
