We are going to the Dordogne region, specifically the Perigord section, in late May, early June.
Anyone have experience with a comfortable place to stay? Doesn't have to be cheap.
Thx.
Evelyn

Will you have a car? Are you committed to staying in the city of Sarlat or is general area ok? For how many people? House or chambres d'hôtes?
You have lots of good choices. It would be helpful to have more information about what you're preferences are.
Thank you , Christy.
Yes, we will have a car. There will be two of us and we would stay at a house or chambres d'hotes if there is privacy. We would prefer to stay in town.
Thanks for your help.

We recently returned from 4 nights at Les Peyrouses, just 5 minutes from Sarlat. It is a beautiful B&B and they also have a private house (gite) that you can rent with a private pool. We were with 2 of our adult children, and took the 2 rooms outside the front door. The rest of the rooms are inside the house and I didn't see them. We were very happy with our rooms (although the path to the front door runs right outside them if that bothers you) and the setting is beautiful. It is a 5 minute drive to to the top part of Sarlat, giving easy parking near the cemetery. On Saturday, market day, we were in and out without having to face the terrible traffic. Another plus, Thierry, the owner, is a great chef. At breakfast he posts the evening menu and you can decide if you want to stay in for a lovely poolside dinner with the other guests. A great solution if you don't want to go out again in the evening (also for families with children). We loved it and highly recommend it . A great location too. Here is their website.

I know this is not responsive to your question, but may I make dinner recommendations for your stay?
Le Presidial has very good food and dinner in the garden is memorable as being in one of the prettiest restaurants we have ever been in.
Pierre Rossignol used to have an exceptional restaurant in Mirepesset, much beloved of self-drive cruisers along the Canal du Midi. He recently moved to Sarlat, where, rumor has it, he is achieving the heights he used to reach at his Michelin starred restaurant in Paris.
Which restaurant would Pierre Rossignol be at?
It has his last name only, Rossignol.
That's what I don't understand. The Rossignol has been in Sarlat for many years - it is a family establishment, serving good regional food. I walked past it last week, although I didn't go in, and it didn't look any different.
Michelin doesn't show any change of ownership, and gives it one fork, about right for what it does.
There is a one star restaurant in Sarlat now, Le Grand Blue, but that is Celine and Maxime LeBrun. So I'm still not sure if/where Pierre Rossignol
I'll check with my correspondent and get back to you if I can get some more details.
It's been there for quite some time. There's even a street in Sarlat named the rue Pierre Rossignol, which I assume is named after him (although there are other Pierre Rossignols with some notoriety). I'd be a little concerned about that "correspondent."
La Tour de Cause is a nearby B&B (10 minute drive from Sarlat). It's beautiful. And it has great reviews. The owners are American expats.
For dinner, I like Hotel La Belle Etoile, in La Roque-Gageac. It's not extraordinary, just very very enjoyable.
Hey Evelyn:
This is the one I spoke of the other day, right in town, gets great reviews

This is the other one, where I might want to stay on a return

This one is right outside of town, I think a 5 min drive into town, we considered staying here, the owners were very nice corresponding and it also gets good reviews.

Another one I have earmarked

This one is in Domme, which I found to be wonderful. I wouldn't mind the drive down the hill to start my day, there are many good restaurants in town as well as the one in this hotel

This is Josephine Baker's chateau and someone gave me this link, there are two little cottages to rent on the property. It is such a lovely spot and I loved her music, I would love to stay here. It would also be easy driving to the towns in the area

OK, that exhausts my knowledge of the Dordogne.
I would second villa consuls. Great location in town, close to the free parking lots, free wahser/dryer and Great COLD air-conditioning. Located just two or three blocks (in the narrow streets without crossing the main street) from the best pizza we ever had in France.

Stayed here in room 15 which is the only room with balcony overlooking the beautiful valley! Wake up above the fog!! Incredible restaurant!!
Thank you all. This info is very helpful. We are now going next Sept instead and I will report back what we found and where we stayed.
Happy travels.
