Where to stay in Prague?

Spending 4 nights in Prague in September. Any suggestions on where to stay? Looking for nice accommodations in a good location (wherever that is!) We realize we won't be spending lots of time in our room but want something clean and comfortable to come back to. Appreciate any help you can offer!

Unless you're an oil or gas oligarch, you have a nightly budget. What is it?

Any of these in Prague 1 area should work. Don't stay too close to the Castle - it's up up up up up up uphill from the rest of town.

kwick58, decide which sites you want to see in Prague, and then choose an accommodation within easy walking distance if possible.

I loved where we stayed...at House at the Big Boot. That was several years ago! You'll have to see if it's still operating. But I must warn you that Prague ruined my feet forever! It was worth it though. Seriously, my feet have never been the same since my visit to Prague. Too much walking on cobblestones, until I felt like somebody hammered the bottom of my feet!

Enjoy this beautiful city.

Agree that we really need to know who/how many "we" are and what your nightly bueget is.

We have stayed in the Old Town (except the time I was there for a congress and had to stay in a specific hotel) and found it great for seeing most sights. There is a tourist tram from Old Town Square up the hill to the entrance to the Castle complex.

I agree to stay in Prague 1 as BigRuss mentions. The Marriott there is very nice and I've read of people getting a very good price for it on Priceline.com. Search for it here on Fodors, think that is where I read about it.

There are also some very nice local hotels that may fit you needs, again, do a search on Fodors for hotels in Prague.

Loved that city! Have a wonderful time!

I've stayed in the Archibald At the Charles Bridge in the Kampa Island area which is a central location for me.

Its just below the Charles Bridge, essentially you are in a small island in between the Castle area and the Old town.

There is a garden in Kampa Island and best of all is you get to see/walk at the Charles Bridge early in the morning or late in the night when all the tourist is gone. Not to mention the sunset on the Charles Bridge is a good place to take some very nice pictures.

We stayed at the Hotel Residence Agnes near the Jewish Quarter this fall and it was fabulous- well priced and just enough off the central square to avoid the tourist masses yet still within walking distance to places. Best part of this hotel is the superlative service- they will do anything for you, and with a smile. Coffee, tea, espresso, wine etc available for free, very nice breakfast, but above all the personal touch that makes this place so special. My highest recommendation.

In November we stayed at The Green Grape (U Zeleného hroznu) and it's easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. It's in the Lesser Quarter which we really enjoyed - our area was much quieter, but still walkable to everything. The Charles Bridge was a quick stroll from the Hotel, and stairs leading up to the Castle were just around the corner.

We're more on the budget end when we travel, but we always pick one splurge hotel, and this was it. Since it was November I suppose that helped as well, but I found their prices very reasonable for the service and quality.

The rooms are huge and have interesting character, considering it's a 17th century building. The service was fantastic and they recommended a lot of great restaurants. Really the location is the best part - I always felt very safe, it was quiet and more like a neighborhood, and super accessible.
