where to stay in Paris and Rome with a family of 5

We're taking our three kids, 11,10 and 7, to Paris and Rome this summer and we're having a hard time finding places to stay. Most hotels don't have rooms for more than 3, and getting 2 rooms really adds up quick. We would be interested in apartments but would like some recommendations.

You do need apartments. There are many many threads on here discussing/recommending specific apartments and agencies in both cities.

A quick search will get you tons of info.

Start by googling Rome vacation rentals apartments. Same for Paris.

For Rome, look at sleepinitaly.com or VRBO.com or Italyperfect. there are others, too.

When you see one you think is nice, go to TripAdvisor or SlowTrav and look at recommendations.

I can't offer a specific one because we always rent one bedroom apartments.

If you'd like a hotel recommendation, we stayed at the Hotel Marignan(Latin Quarter)in Paris. It was very basic/spartan, but it was clean, included breakfast and the location was ideal. In the off-season (we were there in mid-late March) the rates were as good or better than an apartment. In Rome this March we will be staying at the Hotel Parlamento in a quad room with extra bed(TripAdvisor reviews for it are excellent, location is excellent) and once again, the rates were at least comparable to an apartment. You can search for quad rooms at sites such as booking.com, venere.com and then email the hotels directly to see if they will put an extra bed in the room, to accommodate your family of 5.

this is an occasion when google is your friend. search for apartments in Paris and Rome and you'll get a good number of agencies come up. then just fill in their search criteria and see what transpires.

there are also a surprisingly large number of apartments on TA.

In addition to apartments, you might consider adjoining rooms. In France they're called chambres communicantes, and normally involve a shared entrance and hallway with a two bedrooms, one on either side of that hallway. Some have a shared bathroom. Some have two. They are typically less expensive than two separate rooms. Perhaps these exist in Italy as well, but I've never needed one there so can't say.

We stayed in this apt. in Paris with 6 people (4 adults and 2 kids). http://www.parisianflat.com/rent-a-p...-des-pres.html. We thought the location was good, apt was great - plenty of room for all of us, and Philippe and Sophie were very responsive to my emails, etc.

Yes you're going in right direction. For a family for 5 obviously hotel is not a good choice and looking for an Apartment is really a good move. Even I too preferred apartment instead of Hotels during my stay and it was really awesome I must say. I had my own apartment at a very central location.

Well getting back to you I would definitely like to recommend Lodjee and you can easily get the Rome and Paris apartments by contacting their Paris Department (http://www.lodjee.com/paris) and Rome Department (http://www.lodjee.com/rome).

I can recommend a couple of nice areas for an apartment stay in Paris. The Marais in the 4th is atmospheric and full of history. The St Germain district on the left bank is lovely as well. The metro system is so fantastic that wherever you stay, you will be close to public transport.

In Rome, go for an apartment near Piazza Navona or Campo di Fiori. You will be in a central location with easy access to transport and within walking distance of a number of tourist spots.

Remember to check for all additional fees and charges before you pay in both Paris and Rome. Good luck and have a wonderful time.
