where to stay in Paris??

Where to stay nearest the center of Paris (left bank possibly) w/ my husband for 4 nights. We want a place that has a romantic, Paris feel but need to stay around $140 or less a night. Any recommendations?

Hi Melissa
My wife and I always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte at 61 rue Bonaparte in the 6th.
It is about 100 E for a double w/bkfst and the rooms have A/C.
I'm too tired to give you all the particulars, but you can look them up on Google. They don't have a website because they don't need one.

Hotel Lutece, Hotel des Deux Iles, or Hotel st. Louis, on the Ile St. Louis, the island in the middle of the Seine behind Notre Dame. I've been staying at one or another of htese hotels for 30 years. One of the most romantic streets in Paris, with great places for cheese, wine, charcuterie. And being on the wonderful old island with its narrow streets can't be beat. Seconds from Notre Dame and the left bank. Also there's a great restaurant on the right bank, just across the Pont Louis Phillipe called, I think, the Brasserie Louis Phillipe, which is your dream of a romantic Paris bistro.

Of the hotels that STeven mentions, I second the Lutece. Charming and reasonable for the location. The first hotel we stayed in on my first trip to Paris
Now we stay on the Left Bank at the D'Angleterre, which might be more than $140-a night. But on that street-rue Jacob, there are some lovely hotels.

If you choose the Hotel d'Angleterre be aware that not all rooms are desirable. Many people have posted here that their rooms were very nice. However, our room was in need of maintenance (peeling paint, mold in the bath). There are some other negative reviews on tripadvisor.com; it appears that the hotel's maintenance is not as it used to be-at least for some of the rooms. Maybe if you're a regular guest you are given one of their better rooms.
