where to stay in Lyon

Okay so I finally decided to skip Provence and head to Burgundy from Italy. We will be stopping along the way and I was thinking of stopping in Lyon at least for one day. Any suggestions on where is teh best palce to stay and what to do if you are only there a full day?

Try Cour Des Loges (€290 per room per night), or Chateau Villa Florentine (€230 per room per night), or Sofitel Lyon Royal (€220 per room per night). Any one of these could probably be considered the 'best place to stay'.

Best value place to stay has to be Hotel la Résidence on rue Victor Hugo. www.hotel-la-residence.com
Numerous recommendations on this board - for good reason. It's an extremely pleasant, well located hotel.

There's alot to do in Lyon. The tourist office has some good walking tours. I enjoyed one of the medieval part of town. And there are Roman ruins at the top of the hill. And another walking tour of the old silk trade. Also, don't miss the museum about the Resistance during WWII. And the food. Try one of the "baby bistros." Enjoy your trip.

You can start with one of the staples of city visits, an open-top bus tour. It shows you plenty of places that you might want to return to and investigate at your leisure.

If fine art interests you, the Musée des Beaux-Arts is worth a visit.

But most of all, enjoy the food. Lyon is considered the gastronomic capital of France.
