Where to stay between Galway & Killarney

I'm working on booking accommodations for our trip mid-October. We are arriving in Shannon and staying around the West for 8 nights; we will have a car. After 3 nights in Galway as a base for day trips, we are heading in the direction of Killarney, which will be our base for 3 more nights. En route to Killarney from Galway, we hope to enjoy a leisurely, scenic drive to include the Cliffs of Moher. Not wanting to rush or drive the entire day, I'd like to stay the night somewhere between Galway and Killarney for 1 night--I'd love some suggestions. I was thinking Adare, but I am open to other gems that would be +/- 30-ish minutes from there/the mid-point between those 2 cities. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to break up that trip. Thank you for suggestions of town or even hotels/inns!

General suggestion would be Ennis/Limerick/Adare. Personal preference Ennis. Other alternatives would be on the coast perhaps Kilkee or Killaloe/Ballina at the foot of Lough Derg.

Mid October I would suggest seeing the Cliffs and Burren area as a day trip on a good day during your Galway stay rather than hoping for a good day on the travel down day. last year the beginning of October was really good but winter arrived overnight. If you are planning on seeing the Dingle peninsula then I suggest doing that between the split night and Killarney or between Killarney and your last night near Shannon airport for departure. rather than going to Killarney then up to Dingle back down to Killarney.

Thanks, Tony for the suggestions. Ennis was also on my radar as a possibility, so I'll be looking into there as well.

We are definitely aware that weather will play a factor in how/where we day trip. We will keep this in mind for the Cliffs, as I feel they are a must-see.

Also, I appreciate your thoughts on how/when to visit Dingle. This was also on our possible day trip list for Killarney.
