Where to Stay?

I'm going to be in Paris for 3 days in June and have no idea where to stay. Since my stay is so short I want to be close to most everything but especially the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, and Champs Elysees. Also I would like it to be by some cute shops and cafes, and of course be affordable say 100-140$. I will be going alone so safety is another factor. So if anyone has some hotel and neighborhood recomendations I would really appreciate it.
thanks

The 1st district should be good for your sights. Try Hotel de La Place du Louvre as it's close to the museum and you can walk to the Champs Elysees if you want. Actually there isn't anything scenic about the Champs Elysees but it's up to you.

By the way, you should mention "Paris" in your heading to get more replies.

Hi bmp. I see you are a relatively new poster -- welcome!

I was recently in Paris and stayed at a 29 room, 2 star hotel called the Hotel Bonaparte. It is located in the 6th arrondissement, on rue Bonaparte at rue St. Sulpice, about 1.5 blocks south of Boulevard St. Germain. I was travelling with my sister in law and, as 2 women travelling alone, felt very safe in this hotel and in this area. In fact, I chose it so that if we wanted to walk at night, we could do so. The area is filled with beautiful shops, and cafes and restaurants fitting all budgets.

The hotel is clean and affordable (I think singles start at 90E including breakfast)with a very friendly and helpful staff.

While it is not next door to the sights you mention, it is very close to 3 metro stops and I found that you could get anywhere to wanted (almost!) in 10 - 15 minutes.

Look into it!

It is very close to

Thank you both for your responses. I will look in to both. I was thinking that I should find something in the districts 1,2,or 7, but I've read a lot possitive things about 4,5,and 6. But with all of the terroist hostility I'm a little aprehensive about taking the metro, and am not sure if districts 4-6 are within walking distance to the sites.

ps. how would I change my header to add paris in it?

Districts 4-6 are very convenient to quite a few sights! Within a short walk you will find St. Germain, Luxembourg Gardens, Notre Dame, the Seine, the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, the Tuileries, place Vendome, Marais, etc.

You are not close to the Eiffel Tower nor the Champs Elysees but in my opinion, once you've seen them both, that's great. But there is no need to stay right next to them. In my opinion the 4th-6th districts is more scenic as the neighborhoods have their own great qualities. Around the Eiffel Tower the neighborhood is nice but too quiet at night-dead-and there are not many choices for restaurants and shops as much as the 4th-6th. The Champs Elysees is much too busy and it's really not scenic at all.

You can't edit your header. The advice was to make sure you mention the destination in any subsequent question you ask. Or on a "re-ask" of this question (a new posting altogether), if you had not received any answers.

Best wishes,

Rex
