Where to spend the weekend in advance of business trip to Oslo
I am traveling to Oslo for a business trip in a few weeks. The meetings don't start until Monday, but I was thinking of leaving the U.S. Friday and visiting another city for the weekend and then traveling onto Oslo on Sunday night or Monday morning.
I've always wanted to visit Copenhagen and had that on my list as a possibility. Does anyone have any other city recommendations, in addition to things to do for a 48 hour period? Thanks!

If you leave on Friday you will arrive in Norway on Saturday. You will probably be tired on Saturday so that leaves Sunday. It would be best to leave the US on Thursday if you want to do the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Oslo back to Oslo.
Or leave the USA on Friday and fly into Bergen. Look around Bergen on Saturday and on Sunday take the NIN trip to Oslo.
Hint: If you fly into Oslo take the local train from the airport into Oslo - it is half the price of the express and only a few minutes longer. You can check at the tourist desk at the airport to be sure it is still the same pricing.

I'd second that. You're going to be in a country that has some of Europe's most spectacular scenery. Don't pass up the opportunity to see it.
The fjord region is about 5-6 hrs by car, though the train would be more relaxing. You could spend a day in the Sognefjord area for NIN, and a day in Bergen.

If you want a city in another country fly into Helsinki and be there for Saturday and Sunday and fly into Oslo Sunday evening or Monday morning.
I love Helsinki - there is something unique about it. The market place at the wharf, Stockmans Department Store, the rock church, Sibelius Monument etc.
If you want more info, let me know.

I spent a couple of weekends in Oslo a few years ago when I was interviewing for a job. There certainly is enough to keep you busy in Oslo or Norway for the weekend, and others are right that you won't really have a lot of time to spare.
On the other hand, if you'd really like to visit another city, Copenhagen would be at the top of my list in the region. I visited there for a weekend a few years ago and it's one of my top 3 favourite cities in the world.
