Where to spend the night, Norway Fjord
My wife and I are going to Norway on end of Jun for our first time. We are arriving in Oslo, staying 3 nights and after, we are going to rent a car to travel for 5 days by the fjords. After a lot of reading, we now know that we "must go" to Bergen, the Sognefjord and the Geirangerfjord.
The question is, Where are the best places to spend the nights?
Our itinerary, after Oslo, is:
1 night in Lofthus
1 night in Bergen
1 night in the Sognefjord
1 night in the Geirangerfjord
1 night in the way to Stockholm
Some posts says that the way to Stockholm is a little boring, Which is the most panoramic way to Stockholm?
We can change our plans, depending of your suggestions.
Thanks for your help.

Geiranger can be fully booked, as it was when I was there. I, and especially the wife, found this place: http://www.petrines.com/eng/e-start.html very charming. It's a bit outside Geiranger.
Concerning Stockholm, are you driving there from Geiranger? In that case you certainly have a lot of driving ahead of you, and should stick to the motorways. Otherwise smaller roads might be more scenic. I drive from Stockholm to Oslo almost every summer, and the only nice view I can remember along the way is a sign in the middle of a field of barley saying "Här växer öl", Here grows beer. Cheers

Kviknes Hotel, in Balestrand, on Sognefjord, has gorgeous views and fascinating architecture. The dinner and breakfast buffets are excellent. However, make sure you get a room in the older part of the hotel. The rooms in the newer building are totally without character. It's worth the difference in price to stay in the older section.

Thanks for your recommendations.
We tried to reserve in the Kviknes Hotel or The Stalheim Hotel, and neither they had rooms available. We see that it is very important to reserve ahead of time.
HunterGatherer, we are going to make a stop to sleep in the way of Geiranger to Stockholm, we do not even know where, Some recommendation?
Thanks again,
Oswaldo

Oswaldo,
Did a quick check and found that the shortest route between Geiranger and Stockholm is 963 km, with a time estimate of 13h 46 min. That's a lot of driving. The main part of the driving (timewise) will be in Norway, maybe a bit less than 6 h in Sweden. Therefore I think you should stay the night in Norway, but not further away from Sweden than Oslo or equivalent. Where that is depends on what route you choose to drive.
I would consider taking a detour by way of one of the national tourist routes (maybe over Sognefjell), but only if you can make it fit into your time schedule. Creaking along narrow Norwegian roads can be great fun, but not when you're in a hurry.

Going from Geiranger to Røros (on UNESCO world heritage list) would be a nice and scenic trip and enough for one day. But going from there to Stockholm in a day might be too much.
