My husband and I will visit Italy in June. This is our first time to make a trip there. If someone could recommend hotel in the above mentioned cities, that will be great help. We would like a double room with private bath. Breakfast included will be a plus.

We are going to Venice and Florence in a couple of weeks and have booked double rooms with private bath in La Calcina (Venice) and Hotel Torre Guelfa (Florence). Both hotels are in the $150/night range and I've heard wonderful things about them. <BR> <BR>However, you are booking very late indeed for the more popular hotels in Venice and Florence. You may have to take your chances with less well-known hotels. These hotels fill up at least 3 months in advance. Don't let that discourage you from going, however. Italy is well worth it, even if you don't have stellar accomodations! <BR> <BR>Good luck.

Dear Ivy, <BR> <BR>I just returned from Florence, but you didn't mention your price range or where you would like to stay. We stayed at the Hotel Splendor with a double room, which was very nice. Nice quiet area near San Marco and short walk to everything. I know the cost for a double is about $100.00 per night with breakfast included. We also stayed at the Loggiato di Servetti last year which was beautiful but considerably higher priced. I know the Hotel Belletini(cheaper) is always booked as well as the Hermitage(highly rated but worth it, I hear) but you may get lucky. I saw the Pension Pendini and the location was very strategic. Email the Hotel Torre Guelfa, they are very accomodating and reply right away. Another hotel that is suppose to be nice, but near the train station is Mario's. My daughter stayed at the Hotel Nuova Italia and it looked very nice and the location was quite nice. It was near the train station, but not in a sleezy area (right by the San Lorenzo markets. The price was about $90.00 pernight with private bath and breakfast. If you need phone numbers, emails, etc. let me know. <BR> <BR>Denise

Ivy <BR>don't wait any longer to book hotels, the most popular ones will likely be fully booked. <BR>I have notes on Venice and Florence that include sightseeing, and also some hotel recommendations gleaned from this Forum. Just came back from Rome, Florence and Venice. We stayed at the Hotel Miami on Via Nazionale. Very centrally located: we walked to the Colliseum, Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain. They had great little shops across the street, great italian cafe down the street with the best panini sandwiches I have ever had. It is a very modest hotel -but great for location. Normal american shower, rooms are small but clean and worth it. The hotel manager is great and speaks english very well. You get breakfast (by italian standards) roll, croisant, coffee, cappuccino and juice. A taxi to the Vatican was also very inexpensive (about $7.00 US) or you can take the public bus (very crowded). <BR>Florence: We stayed at the Hotel Pendini (great for location)right at the main square and we could walk to everything but watch out - some rooms do not have a separate shower. Ask for a room away from the main desk with a separate shower. We had a room that the shower head was in the middle of the bathroom and the water from the shower just goes down the drain on the floor. <BR>The hotel Pierre was beautiful in Florence but I don't know how much it was. We stayed at the Hotel Olimpia in Venice. It was absolutely gorgeous! Great showers, beautiful rooms overlooking the canal or in the back they overlook a beautiful courtyard with flowers and trees. Rooms are very expensive in Venice so although our public boat ride was about 30 minutes to St. Mark's square it was still fine. Otherwise if you really want to stay right by St. Mark's Square - stay at the Hotel Danielle. It is big, gorgeous and a stone's throw from St. Mark's. We are going to Venice at the end of June and have booked two nights at the Al Piave. Some friends of ours stayed there in November and loved the location. <BR> <BR>We booked a double room with a bath and breakfast for 260,000 lira. Ivy, You can't go wrong with the Duca d'Alba hotel in Rome. The rooms are quiet, clean, marble bathrooms and they serve a "continental" breakfast that gives a new meaning to the term. Try email at [email protected] and if you can't find it there, Preview Travel and most of the Italian tourist websites have the info. The central location is also a plus. Enjoy
