We will be in SW France for eleven nights starting in Bodeaux on October 5 and ending in Carcassone on October 15. We plan to rent a car for eight days. Which towns should be use at headquarters for scenic drives? We are thinking Sarlat and Cahors might be two choices. Do you agree? Can you suggest others? Thanks, Jim.
Where to headquarter in SW France?

You've picked the right two!
Do you want to stay IN Sarlat? Traffic has become a bit of a problem lately, and even in fall it can take some time to get in and out of town - an don market days, forget it.
If you do want to stay in town, I'd recommend the Hôtel Madeleine - it has parking. If you'd rather be out in the beautiful Dordogne countryside just outside Sarlat, you have lots of fine choices, too.
In Cahors, I'd recommend the Hôtel Terminus - crappy name, I know, but a lovely place and perhaps the best restaurant in the area. There's also the elegant Château de Mercuès a few miles outside town.
Both marvelous towns with loads to do and see.
StCirq: Hello again. Do you know the hotel Les Granges Hautes at St. Crepin Carlucet (near Sarlat)?
