where to go in Germany
A friend and myself will be staying in France for a while and would like to do a four-day weekend somewhere in Germany. What's a good city for two twenty-something women to visit - I've been to Munich, so would like to try somewhere new. Thanks!

Bavaria is great to visit if you want the smaller towns. GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN is very scenic with plenty to do and see. The great LUDWIG castles are in the area, Linderhof and Neuschwanstein (Disney castle) as the area of OBERAMERGAU and ETTAL ABBEY.
Nice way to spend four days.

I like the Rhine and Moselle regions. Think about going up the river from Cologne, for example. You can jump ship anywhere, stay in a castle or a little village, get a boat up or down river the next day.

What month of the year? I agree that the Rhine and Mosel areas and the small towns & villages, even if you travel by car, can be enchanting. The wine festivals around the area in Sep/Oct are fun also.

If you're looking for "action" then I'd forget about the castles along the Rhine, etc., etc., and head straight to Berlin...but you haven't said what your interests are..usual sighseeing stuff or something else?

You will love Nuremberg when the Xmas market is on, and the town itself with surrounding countryside is one of the best in Germany for a four-day visit.
If you have a car the little villages of Schwabach, Cadolzburg, Lauf and Herzogen-Aurach make nice day-trip destinations.

And who knows, perhaps you want to stay in a VERY special hotel (all theme rooms, designed by artists)?

well, it depends on what You are looking for. Berlin shure is a great place for culture and fun. Annother is Hamburg with its old houses and the harbor. Or go off the beaten tracks and go along the valley of the river Neckar from Stuttgart to Heidelberg or the Danube from Donaueschingen to Ulm.
