Where to dine without spending all of the kids inheritance

We are goiing to Switzerland, August 8th with OAL hotels are set, but need ideas on where to eat at Engelberg, Dovos, and Interlaken. Thanks for your help.

I know nothing about the places you mention but discovered a long time ago a way to eat well at low cost. It is this: look for the law courts. Because lawyers have little time to spare, they must eat quickly near where their trials are being held. Hence, one often finds small restaurants that quickly serve fixed-price luncheons near the law courts. Eat there after the noon hour, once the lawyers have departed. Also look for pubs and bars that serve lunches. On the Continent, we usually eat picnic lunches, buying the ingredients at butcher shops and bakeries. Saves a bundle. Switzerland, as you will discover, is a high-priced economy and one must do whatever one can to offset the high prices charged there for food, lodging, and transportation.
I say, spend it!!
Seriously, if you're like me, once you get there, you'll love the breads and cheeses (not to mention brewski's) and you can find little delis to buy things to satisfy you for lunch, or even dinner. Breakfast may be included in your room so check on that. I can't remember specific places in Interlaken we've eaten but we did find lots of little places on the side streets that were fairly reasonable. Your hotel can give you some info. Ask where the locals eat. We eat pasta alot, and I loved the gorgonzola sauces. I also ate alot of fish, like trout, and found that reasonably priced. Haven't been to the other two towns so don't know about that. All I know is that I could live on bread and cheese over there!

Try the restaurant or cafe at the train station. Always right in the center of town. Good food, cheap (for Switzerland). You'll be amazed.
