You haven't given any information re: your budget or preferences, so I'll just tell you we stayed at the Hotel American a week ago and liked it very much. It is in Venice itself, in the Dorsoduro section. The vaporetto stop is Accademia. Near enough to San Marco but also in a fairly quiet area. I believe it is a *** hotel, and we had airconditioning and a private bathroom. Breakfast was included. Our room was recently redecorated and spotless. If you do a search on this site for hotels in VEnice, I think you'll come up with many recent recommendations.

My favorite place, Antica Locanda Sturion, close to the Ponte Rialto.
Buon Viaggio,
BC

We stayed at Hotel Flora in San Marco and would choose it again for convenience and breakfast in the garden. We paid between $150 and $200 per night last June.

yet another vote for the Flora, but it books up many many months in advance.
Scott, if you say what you'd like to spend, it would be helpful for recommendations. If you are on a tight budget, do you want amenities like
elevator, a/c, etc?

Scott,
I am a travel agent and many people do like The Hotel Flora if it happens to be sold out try Westin Regina Europe (I was there last week) or Bauer of Luna all near San Marco square, where it's "happenin" but all pricey. Sofitel nice but closer to train station.
