I was wondering if there are any particular shops that we can go to that would download our photos for us onto a disk. Also would you know approximately how much it would cost? We have a new camera and have bought one 8gb card but we are not taking our computers to download them (or DH will be working instead of vacationing). We are probably going to get another card but I'm thinking it might be safer to copy them onto a disk every few days. Last year I took almost 3,000 pictures of our trip to Scotland and that was on one 4gb card. I have a feeling that we will have more than that for this trip.
Where in Paris can I get my photos put onto a disk?

Hi De,

>I took almost 3,000 pictures of our trip to Scotland and that was on one 4gb card.<
Well, each 4gb card is worth another 3000 pix.
Available new at Amazon.com for $9.95 - used only $4.50.
Much cheaper and safer than having strangers fiddle with your pix.
FNAC and Photo Service are just two of the places that will do that.
You can also buy more memory cards, either before you leave or once you arrive.
You can also do this at the Fat Tire Bike Tour office. It is a good idea to download every so often just in case there is an unexpected disaster like a lost or damaged card.
How many photos can you burn into a CD-Rom?
Copying my own photos onto a disc (but with varying numbers of megapixels), I have found that mine hold about 1000.
Personally I'd rather take more 4gb cards than one 8 gb - less photos lost if something goes wrong, plus they are less prone to failure. Cards are so cheap now why not just buy a couple of extras to take with you? they take up no space after all.
I assume you are shooting Jpegs? How many MP does your camera have - that will affect how many photos your card will hold, and how many you an get on a disc. If you are shooting RAW then you almost certainly can't burn them to a disc.
Have a look for a simple cheap image tank if you are really concerned about backing up.
Don't forget to put the write protect button up once you have filled a card so you don't accidentally overwrite it.
Kerouac and Seamus--thank you for your suggestions of places to get this done.
Askar--I was able to get all my Scotland pictures (almost 3000) on one disc from my Sony 6MP camera. I decided to have them on disc for safe keeping as well as on my computer.
Hetismij--we have a 14.7mp Canon that we just started using. At the setting we have on the camera now it can take (Jpeg) about 4400 pics on the 8gb card. We first bought the 8gb as we were thinking the less things to carry then the less things to worry about losing especially with them being so small. At home I just download onto my computer every so often. Maybe the best idea will be to get more cards-I'll just have to figure out something to store them in for safe keeping. I'm glad you mentioned the protect button as the card for our Sony did not have one so this is a first for us. Can you tell me what an image tank is? Thank you for your input.
