Where do I go after frankfurt in November?
I am looking for a romantic destination. Second honeymoon after business trip. After 3 day working in Frankfurt we want to escape the city. we are not sure where to go.<BR>we are considering staying in germany or taking a quick flight out of the county. we have 4 days and don't want to waste to much time on travel. We want to go first class all the way. No back packing or sharing bathrooms. Any Ideas?

Try the Castle/Hotel Auf Schoenburg in Oberwesel, on the Rhine River northwest of Frankfurt: <BR>http://www.hotel-schoenburg.com/castle-hotel-room-rates/index.html<BR>(definitely not backpacker digs!)<BR><BR>From there, it's a simple matter to tour Cologne, Trier and the smaller towns along the Rhine and Mosel. Just north of Oberwesel and across the river is Marksburg Castle (open in Nov. for tours) in the town of Braubach (ferry across in St. Goar):<BR><BR>www.roadstoruins.com/marksburg.htm

Would have to agree with Russ on the Auf Schoenburg Castle Hotel in Oberwesel. We stayed there in May and it was wonderful! Our room was furnished with lovely antiques. They also have a great restaurant on the premises with an extensive wine list. Try some of the local wine or beer!

Ditto Auf Schoenburg. Another alternative is the Hotel Krone Assmanhausen in Assmanhausen. (Schoenburg is up on the hill overlooking the Rhine while Assmanhausen is practically on the water.) Jay Leno and his wife just stayed there on their recent tour of Germany. You can easily spend 3-4 days along the Rhine and Mosel--visiting small towns, touring castles, tasting wine, etc. Don't miss Burg Eltz. The last night before you leave, stay at the Schlosshotel Kronberg in Kronberg-im-Taunus. Short ride from here to the Frankfurt airport. Its an old castle originally owned by one of Queen Victoria's daughters (who was married to one of the German Kaisers). Cool place, although its catering more and more to business travelers than ever before. Nice restaurant, great ambience.

Lee: Can't think of many more romantic areas than the Mosel Valley and it would be so easy for you get there from Frankfurt. Mary and Russ are right on with Auf Schenburg and, yes, do not miss Burg Eltz. Spetacular. Be sure to also wander Cochem. Wonderful area.

Assmannhausen and the Krone Hotel is a good spot and close drive from the airport. We stayed there a few years ago and got a great room overlooking the Rhine River with the tour boats departing across the street.<BR><BR>Rothenburg also a favorite and about 2 hours from airport. Stay at MARKUSTURM HOTEL and you will not regret it. Book room 120 or 121 and you will have a room that overlooks the front of the very scenic building and will also be pictured on many of the books/etchings about the city. I think Karen Brown's latest book on Germany also has this hotel on the cover. We stayed there in November 2001 and had a great time and great service. Both rooms above are modern and very nice.<BR><BR>Hopes this helps some.
