NOT anywhere like the Angus or Aberdeen Steak Houses, if they're still going.

A Uruguayan friend of mine recommended an Argentinian restaurant in London. I have never been myself so cannot comment, but the reviews are good and if South Americans say it is good, I would expect it to be so. I hope to try it one day.

Hi Odin. I can definitely try that place.

Although, one of my friend suggested about Hippodrome Casino. The restaurant over there serves the best steak in London. I am thinking to give it a shot. I hope, I will enjoy.

The most vulgar was at Aberdeen.

I haven't been to the Hippodrome, but if your friend says the best steak in London is to be found in a casino, then by all means, go there.

Tulip,
No harm in trying and exploring a new place. I've never been to a casino. But anyways, the restaurant over there is amazing. Great interiors and ambiance. A very different experience, I must say.

Thanks for letting me know that. One should also know the worst places too. That saves a lot of time. What is the place that you like the most?

Aberdeen is a chain and as unsuspecting Yank we wondered into one. All the Brits were appalled that I would commit such a culinary faux pas.

When traveling, we like to eat the cuisine of that country. The truth of the matter was, my wife was sick and this joint was close to the hotel.

And more than a few Yanks were appalled as well

Ok, I don't mean to hijack this but I have two questions: (1) is Aberdeen Steak House the same as Angus Steak House? (2) What is so horrendous about them?

And here's a contributory payment to the thread for my questions above:

>>What is so horrendous about them?<<

No words can describe the vileness

You walk into one and it looks just like it did in 1978 - and some of the menu items do too.

>>(1) is Aberdeen Steak House the same as Angus Steak House?<<

Yes -- one and the same company -- though I don't think any still operate as 'Aberdeen's'. (not sure about that) There used to be LOTS of branches but (thankfully) only a handful remain.

If I remember right there was once an Aberdeen and and an Angus a few doors apart near Piccadilly Circus.

We've never eaten at an Aberdeen Angus (or Angus - the name changes) - they have a reputation for being a tourist trap, lots of bad reviews, but they have been around for ages. Food is reheated and sauce comes from a packet, and it is expensive;

The cow must have died at least three years before our arrival. They cooked it on the 2nd anniversary of its death and served it the evening we ate there.

Even people who work at Arby's think it is declasse. The side dishes would have been refused by Syrian refugees and the waiters were unctuous salesmen.

Besides that it is highly recommended.

Entirely apart from the steak chains (who is worse, Angus in the UK or Western Sizzler/Golden Corral in the US?), a lot of beef in England, both South American and local, is grass-fed rather than corn-fed, so it has a different fat content and flavor from US beef.

I like the flavor, but it is a bit gamier than US beef. So when you ask for the best steak house in London the result might not be anything like the result if you asked the same question in Chicago.

Travel broadens.

We eat steak about twice a year. Basically I find a large chunk of meat essentially boring and prefer ethnic, regional and national cuisines with different spices, preparations, and ingredients. When we travel we set aside money for one splurge meal and try to find places that represent the cuisine of where we are. Sometimes it is fabulous, others not. But that is among the joys and vagaries of travel.

There are lots of reviews of steak houses in London on the Zagat site, which I look at and don't take as gospel but do consider.
