Where are the best places to eat in Prague?

My husband and I are travelling to Prague in August and spending 5 days exploring the city. We love eating and drinking!! and are looking for some ideas on where we should go to experience the best of the culture - we will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary when we are there, so a few romantic suggestions would be great. Thanks!

We ate at a restaurant called Duplex. Its on Wensclas Sq. Its a roof top seating and I saw Mick Jaggar had his 60th Birthday party there. It was the best meal we had in Prague. We also ate at some of the recommended guidebook places and they were not half as delicious.

If you reference my trip report on Prague, you can read about dining experiences. Type <PANCAKY PAPERS> into the search engine box at the top of the page and it will pop up.

I enjoyed Hot on W. Sq. the food's so cheap that they're practically giving it away. Modern styling, and the dishes are well presented, and professionally finished. Fusion style, despite that being a little over, for 40GBP for two for four a la carte courses you can't complain.

I have to wonder if Kampa Park has really slipped that no one has mentioned so far - - as it used to be at the top of any "A" list for Prague.

See

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34501009

and

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34491978

and

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34400918

I was thinking that I reported on it after our 2003 trip - - very good, but less than phenomenal - - and high priced (double any number of other good meals we had in Prague).

Recent reports, anyone?

Best wishes,

Rex

There is a restaurant kind of beside/under the bridge w/outdoor seating that is wonderful. It has been a couple of years, but dinner including dessert & a local bottle of wine was about $30.

Definitely try Cafe Louvre like someone already mentioned. Einstein and Kafka dined there so the place has a lot of history. It's really beautiful inside and not very expensive.

Hergetova Cihelna in Mala Strana, sister restaurant to Kampa Park (and less expensive) is very good, and you can sit outdoors right next to the River. Very pleasant.

My sister and I are spending 10 days in Prague first half of June and we too, enjoy eating and drinking. We are renting an apartment, mainly due to my sister having a gluten problem. Any reader with suggestions of a Czech website of gluten-free restruants/ supermarket grocery sections in city-Prague would be much appreciated.

Are there any suggestions here that AREN'T expensive? I've probably missed them, but what about a nice place to sit and have a meal that DOESN'T involve shelling out twenty bucks (10 pounds or 17 euro) for a meal in a town known to be inexpensive if you get out of the square?

Thanks, J.P.
