When to Buy Airline Ticket to Frankfurt
Could anyone advise me on the best time of year to buy an airline ticket to Frankfurt next May? We have a Northwest frequent flyer ticket, Detroit to Frankfurt, and want to buy one more at the best price possible. Just now, NWA lists a ticket for $870 (including taxes). Is that a good price? Thanks for your help.

Hi Barbara
In my experience, I only fly American Airlines, I wait until about 2-3 months before my trip to buy.
I start looking on aa.com daily and see how the pricing changes. For example, we're going to Paris in October and for the last two months the prices have varied from about $800 down to about $633.
When I get a "decent" price and a "decent" seat, (based on my research) I buy.
Have you already booked the FF ticket? If not, I'm sure you'd want to secure that seat right away. Then, when you buy the other ticket, talk to an agent and see if the records can be linked so that it shows you are traveling together.
There are many more experienced flyers on this board who I'm sure will help you, too.
Good luck!

I am also needing to buy tickets to FRA for a trip next May. Right now prices seem pretty high from Houston on AA -- around $800 and up. Except for a big airline sale in Nov 03 that allowed us both to fly round trip to London in May 04 for around $950, I usually buy our tickets in February. I don't know if prices will go down much from where they are now but I am watching and hoping.

All this looks extremely expensive. I would wait until the last moment possible. May isn't peak season. Frankfurt to Chicago is less than 500€ at this moment. And even this sounds quite expensive to me. Orlando on Condor is 350€.

Hi B,
Check www.mobissimo.com
Right now they have your flightfor $832.
I expect the odds of it dropping $100 by December at about 3/2.

Barbara,
If possible, you might want to check prices several times a day. I've been checking prices four times a day for the past month for a flight from Raleigh-Durham to Glasgow in October. Yesterday, for about three hours, the price dropped $150 and I jumped on it. I've found that without rhyme or reason the price can suddenly drop for short periods so that is why I check several times a day.
