When rush hours-avoid trains-Rome to Sorrento esp.

I've read a few times that the commuter route esp. between Naples and Sorrento can be hot and crowded, so what are the usual weekday times for rush hours in Italy that we should avoid? We'll be using train Rome-Sorrento (probably on Friday), then back to Rome (probably on Monday).

We'll be choosing specific trains only the day before or of travel on these routes as well as up to Florence, Milan, and Venice. Any specific days/times we should expect having trouble getting a seat in late May/early June?

As for while we are based in Sorrento, I expect the Sunday bus and ferry schedule to be more limited, so would you recommend we wander along the coast via public transport on Saturday, then use Sunday for Pompeii?
