I have been checking websites for Metro del Mare but it appears almost all their routes don't start until mid-June? We are trying to decide whether or not to rent a car for our trip May 26-June 5; if we could get around by ferry we would probably take that option, but I want to make sure the routes we would need would be up and running. Or is it still too early in the season? Alilauro has a couple of routes we need, but when I tried booking a ticket for a date we would want it said "invalid" so I am wondering if they also aren't operating yet.
Thanks!

It may be that the "invalid" was that you are too far in advance (although May 28 isn't far). Weather permitting, I would think that ferries operate all year long? I am not familiar with Metro del Mare-is it the only option for travel in the area?
Can anyone help?
Hi, I live in the area, and can help with just about all of this...
Everything currently on the MdM website relates to last year. For more recent news of that service - which, so far, is all bad - try starting here:
http://www.fodors.com/community/europe/ac-naples-sorrento-no-metro-del-mare-for-2011.cfm
................................
All except one of the routes you want are already up and running, although I've not tried booking any tickets. If worst comes to worst you can buy on the day, as we've done during all the eight years we've lived on Ischia!
Naples-Sorrento May 28 - Yes, year round - 5 or 6 a day, Alilauro and sometimes one's put on by another line, after their last.
Sorrento-Capri May 29 - frequent year-round services. For a rough idea, try selecting the appropriate route here...
http://www.capri.net/en/ferry-schedule?path_id=11
Capri Amalfi May 30 - not very frequent, but again start by looking on that same website
Amalfi-Positano June 2 - try the Coop Sant'Andrea
http://www.coopsantandrea.com/eng/servizidilinea/servizi_eng.asp
Positano-Naples June 3 - nothing has been announced for this route at all so far! Bus or taxi as far as Sorrento, then train or Alilauro hydrofoil?
Generally OK then, other than the last one!
Peter
Wow Peter, THANK YOU - this is extremely helpful. It does seem like all the ferry trips we would want are available, except Positano-Naples, but that's fine we would just take the ferry to Sorrento and train from there, no biggie.
Grazie!
