Wheelchair accessible in Tuscany

I plan to spend a week in September on the coast near Viareggio with my disabled sister. Can anyone suggest some towns that would be wheelchair accessible for a day trip; we are renting a car so I will need to park as close as possible and then push her around. Many thanks.

Lucca would be ideal as it is small and virtually flat. The Campo di Miracoli in Pisa, where the Leaning Tower and Duomo are, is accessible. Pienza is also small and flat. All have parking next to the walls.

Sarzana is a wonderful, flat, small town located north of where you will be staying. Not a lot of tourists, good shopping and food. Beautiful!

Pienza is flat and good for a wheelchair. I remember a lot of handicapped parking right outside the city walls when I was there in 2004.

there is a book called the Accessible Guide to Florence by Danielson which I have not read but it has received great reviews(see it on Amazon)-I would also go to Slow Travels website-there is a number of articles by a young lady who is confined to a wheelchair & writes on travel topics-it may help on more than just a daytrip. I sincerely wish you good luck-your sister is very lucky to have you.
