I know this is a silly question, but I really would like to know. I leave in five days for a two week trip to France and am a person who functions well in the early morning thanks mostly to a couple cold cans of Diet Coke. It just occurred to me that this may be hard to come by, or very expensive, or both. I'm not a coffee drinker. <BR> <BR>Just wondering...... thanks in advance. <BR> <BR>Sandi <BR> <BR> <BR>

Look for the word "doux" not "diet" <BR> <BR>It's hard to find, but you can find cans in supermarkets for about $1 a can (based on what I remember from a year ago)

The product you will see is Coke Light rather than Diet Coke though it tastes a little different. It's easily available and ranges in price as it does here in the states.

Hi Sandi, <BR>I also function better with diet Coke. Last March, 2000, I got a can of coke "to go" at a pastry shop for 10 francs. <BR>I think that's the going price from sidewalk vendors, too.

In Europe, Diet Coke=Coke Light; Diet Pepsi=Pepsi Max. If you have a fridge/minibar in your room, go to a discount store/grocery like Monoprix and buy a 1.5 liter bottle for about $2. Otherwise stick to corner grocers, as all soda is outrageous in restaurants--invariably more than Evian or house wine.

You can get softdrinks in many metro stations for about $1 a can. Maybe expensive, but I purchased many, as you can work up quite a thirst. Don't remember if they had Diet Coke. Thought you might enjoy a little story. My wife used to live on Diet Coke, so the first few times we traveled overseas together, she assembled a collection of Diet Coke cans from China, Hungary, Czech Republic, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Germany, etc. Now she won't touch the stuff, and we no longer bring back cans.

Just got back from Paris yesterday....you can buy diet coke in the metro stations for 10 francs out of the vending machines. Otherwise you will probably only find Coke Light in the cafes, etc and they can vary on price depending on the quality of the cafe etc.....my advice would be to stock up at the metro...... <BR> <BR>Have fun. The price of a Coke are more expensive in cafes and restaurants. Often, they are about 25 Francs.

<BR>Sandi, <BR>I understand your concerns, being a 'cokaholic' myself. The price wasn't really too bad, but I would suggest that you always keep a couple of Coke "lites" in your daypack. There were the odd occasions when I was glad I had some in reserve. Sometimes the Lite can be a bit more difficult to find. <BR>Have fun.

We were in France for the first time last month. If you like to get soft drinks out of a drink machine when you are on the run, ALWAYS have a supply of 10 F pieces on you. The vast majority of machines we saw had no means to accept paper money and give change. More often than not we never had the right amount of change to get a drink out of a machine when we wanted one.

OK, so Pepsi Max isn't Diet Pepsi. What is? And no one has mentioned caffeine free--is that a sacrilege in France-no caffeine?

Axe the sugar, Max the taste!! Or so the slogan goes. So basically it's a zero-sugar drink with a different taste and packaging and marketing to diet pepsi. It's an alternative, effectively, to diet pepsi. I'm not keen on either as it happens, I prefer Coke.
