It depends on what kind of Indian food you are looking for -- is there any particular region, etc.?
Tamarind in Mayfair on Queen Street is an unbelievable restaurant -- I think I would liken it to the restaurant Nirvana here in New York. Very fancy, quite expensive, and very good food. An old standby in London is Khan's, known for its brusque service, chaotic atmosphere and relatively cheap food, in Bayswater.
You cannot go too far wrong, though, wandering into a place around Brick Lane or Bayswater. I don't remember the names of the places, but I had terrific Indian food in Brick Lane that I preferred over that which I had in Bayswater.

Chakra at Notting Hill ~(Fancy)
Roti Chai near Bond Street (Low key, street foodish. Roti Chai literally means tea and bread, so the food is homely but not fancy)
Punjab (Covent Garden) - Punjabi food (quite nice, good Lassi)
Mint Leaf (Covent Garden) - Fusion indian
Tayyabs (Brick lane) - not Indian per se, more mughlai or pakistani, but fantastic meat. Very very popular!

In any case - i think im not allowed to mention names. how about areas - brick lane has some authentic indian/mughlai places. Notting Hill would have some fancier options.
Hi Rushil. It's fine to mention specific restaurants as long as it's not advertsing/spamming i.e. by the owners or someone closely affiliated with the place. Not sure what was in your earlier posts to get them removed.
This is an ancient thread though, so you might be better off starting a new one to encourage debate about best places for indian food. Welcome.
