From everything I've read (including the hotel website) there appears to be neither rhyme nor reason to how seaside rooms are assigned at Hotel Niza. Their FAQ say "cannot be guaranteed"; other Fodorites say they tried but got a street-side room instead...and yet another said they tried a few months in advance but had no luck. Does anyone have any tips to impart? I'm ready to book now for early June. Thanks!
Diane

As 'nice' as the Niza is, (which, like most things, is a matter of opinion), if they cannot guarantee a seaside room, then I'd look elsewhere. Of course there are not that many options if you what to be on La Concha Beach.
Other than finding another hotel, would be to show up before the start of a weekend (midweek) or holiday period, when the hotel will be packed with those wanting a seaside room.
I have a reservation at the Niza at the end of May and will hope for the best. Am open to any other hotel suggestions.
Anything with a view of the bay would be great. Doesn't have to be on La concha.
Thanks...I e-mailed the hotel and will see what they say. Where is Hotel Niza/La Concha in relation to the city as a whole---I am assuming restaurants are within easy walking distance... (maybe that should be a separate post)
Check your other post!
Unless things have changed since my visit a few years ago, they will not guarantee a sea view. We were not granted one, even though I had requested one months in advance and it was not high season when we visited. Our room faced the street in the rear. Decent enough, but nothing special.
I always stay at a lovely 2 star hotel -breakfast included-Hotel Zaragoza. It's not on the beac h but if you request a room in the front of the hotel you do get to see the sea!
The Niza is way too arrogant/populat and realy a litle shabby! That's why they are bold enough not to guarantee ocean views!

I forgot to mention that San Sebastian has a lovely pedestrian walkway/bike path all along the ocean. It's an easy walk to old town with lots of benches to relax/readI fyou get "stucck" with an inner view it will be facing a very busy noisy road because cars are not allowed along the walkway!
The Zaragoza is a minute from the beach!
